I am not sure I understand why you think we don't need the army, but armies are needed on every country in this world. It's and endless cycle armies are needed to protect from other armies. It's a basic human need. Had the atom bomb not been dropped the WWII would have lasted longer and had taken more casualties. The A bomb also helped avoid open war with Russia.
Today these human bombs would be in US instead of Iraq if it wasnt for the US military in Iraq.
Inocents are being massacred because their own people cannot tolerate not having power. And like many they assume a position of :" If I cant have them no one will" They kill them because they can't control them. They kill them because they dont agree with them. Armies are needed to protect those people. Because Iraq doesnt have a real army anymore is that alot of people are dying over there. The US army does what they can...but you cannot protect a culture that you do not belong to. At least not as effectively.
And like I said at first it's an endless cycle. Innocents die because of armies, but only armies can protect those inocents. For there to be peace there has to be war.

You're right. We don't need the Army - let the Marines handle it!
No, seriously, we do need the armed forces. They don't "massacre innocent civilians everywhere and anywhere all over the world". They are the ones who put a stop to it.
I read an excellent article comparing the armed forces to the sheepdogs that protect the sheep from the wolves. We sheep have difficulty accepting the sheepdogs because they look and act so much like the wolves. They scare us. Yet if we look closely they are actually our protectors. Sometimes we as the innocent sheep have to face the choice of becoming sheepdogs ourselves to protect others. The people on board Flight 93 made that choice when they fought back against the terrorists bringing down the plane before it could reach its intended target.
My son (a Marine) has made the choice to protect and serve his country by becoming one of those "sheepdogs". When he leaves the Marine Corps he will continue in security work because he understands the need for it.
I'm deeply thankful for him - and all the others - who are willing to do the tough job upon which too many of us look down our noses. Why? So you can have the freedom to openly badmouth him for what he does. How's that for irony?

Are you some kind of knucklehead? Do you want to go around blowing up an atomic bomb every time an incident arises that needs action?
Yes, there is a dramatic need for an army! The army and its sister services serve as the catalyst that defends this nation. Yes they are being abused by the current administration, but that does not lessen the need to have an active military in place.
If it wasn't for the military - you wouldn't be in any position to complain and make such absurd statements.

If we did not have a military, you wouldn't be asking the question. The military protects your freedom. Take a look a China. If you had asked the same question there, you probably would be under house arrest. Freedom isn't free. A lot of people have died just to give you the freedom that you have now. As for people getting massacared all over the world...we can't control the enemy's way of thinking.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Americans don't really understand war or even politically motivated conflict very well--they seem to approach the question in moralistic or criminal venues. War, by definition, is the application of force upon a political adversary such as bend their political will to that of their opponents and vis versa. Having an army is part of the physical force necessary to bend an opponent to our will. Our problem for the past 60 is to misunderstand the use of force, understand our vital interest, and using the proper tools to meet the political threats that periodically rise.

Do you enjoy the freedom to go on-line and ask questions?
Do you enjoy the freedom to criticize your government?
There is a movie SOLDIER, I encourage you to watch it with your mouth shut and your mind open. By the end of the movie, you just might find what we, the veterans, see nearly everyday: You civilians don't want us, or think we are useful until you are in trouble and find that you are incapable of defending yourselves.
We don't enjoy violence, we are just trained to be good at it. We are trained to use violence as a tool to stop violence. We have a desire to see our nation, whatever nation that is, free.
Yes, we do horrible things. But if we didn't, you would not be on-line complaining about the army.
What you really meant was 'Thank you American military Men and Women.'

Please list the location and number of innocent civilians being masacred "everywhere and anywhere" in the past 10 days (to make it easy for you)
then list the location and number of innocent civilians being protected from harm by the army/military.
If 2nd number is much much greater than 1st number, then there is your answer.

Till the time there are countries with borders and humans are greedy and cant check their greed and will kill/destroy others to get what they want we will need forces to protect the innocent people. Army is the protective force, so are the cops , BSF etc as to how effective they are , we dont know.

The fact that war is a horrifying spectacle must make us take war more seriously, but not provide an excuse for gradually blunting our swords in the name of humanity. Sooner or later someone will come along with a sharp sword and hack off our arms.

The need for army and police and such regulatory and enforcement and security and defence agencies, is one of the most enduring human weaknesses, which, among others, makes life interesting, and, reminds us that we are not, after all, so well evolved and brilliant and 'powerfully' civilized, as a species, "the roof and top of all creations"!
