A week ago I had a cold, and while that seems to have cleared up, the area right above my left eye hurts so much now. It feels like sinus pain in the area and the pain pulsates and radiates through that entire side of my head.

Right now it feels especially horrible and I'd like to get rid of the pain. Any good remedies to help with the pressure/pain feeling? Would tea help, or maybe something like Tylenol/Ibuprofen?

A hot steamy shower, use a pan of boiling water to generate steam, or place a nice hot washcloth over your face- that should help get the sinus to drain some and relieve the pressure. Tylenol will help some, but Motrin seems to work best for me. And the various sinus/pain relief preps all work to help encourage the sinus to drain while relieving some of the pain. But for immediate relief, nothing beats steam and heat, honestly. If your drainage is greenish/yellowish, you might consider a trip to the doctor for antibiotics though- that's a sign the sinus is infected.

Steam is your friend to get rid of congestion. Drink a cup of hot tea or water, take a long hot shower or bath, run the bath and sit next to it for the steam. Put a towel over your head like a tent and lean over the hot water tap. I've found if you wait and run the tap a while to get it steaming first before you lean over with the tent you save your back. Then I plug the sink and keep the tap running letting it drain down that secondary drain. Do it for about 10 minutes. Sounds nuts but it works. You can also use a hot (but not burning hot) wash cloth on your face or as a compress (great for sinus headaches too).

And do not do what I did! I tried the Vick's hot steam which worked for about half an hour. Then in frustration I filled the sink with warm water and literally sniffed the warm water up my nose! PAIN, I am not joking, the whites of my eyes went red and at one stage I thought about head banging to see if extra pain would take my mind off this pain. I went to the Doc the following day, I had a infection, for about two weeks, unnoticed by me. I am going to stick with the steam from now on!
