So what are some must haves at your favorite coffee house/hangout... specific drinks, entertainment, etc. What makes you an avid goer to that establishment.

I'm thinking of opening my own spot and I need some inspiration....I don't want to be strictly a coffee shop more of a chill hangout with smoothies, maybe some hookah.

Thanks in advance

What do you think of the name Magpie's Hideout?

for me its not about the drinks or entertainment at all and mostly about the ambience. I love courtyards with lots of space and big tables at pubs or cafes i think the atmosphere is what really does it for me. I could get a coffee / shake / hookah anywhere. I think the name you chose is a bit cheezy, no offence!! Just my honest opinion.. one word places are better like "Trio" or "Ivy" the something hotel but its still that one word you remember.

The most popular coffee shop in the city I live in has the following awesome features:

- they play new music;
- they hire young people (the ones with the funky hairstyles and nose rings);
- the art on the walls is by local artists and can be bought in-store; it is changed monthly;
- there is a big fireplace with a table and chairs around it;
- the chairs range from comfy armchairs to wooden dining chairs (nothing is uncomfortable to sit on);
- some of the smaller tables have chessboards right on them;
- they have a shelf with games which people may play;
- they have wireless internet & a computer which you may pay to use;
- they have a small outdoor seating area for smokers;
- they have many "natural" coffees and teas;
- they have hot and frozen beverages;
- they support free trade;
- they have the best grilled cheese sandwiches ever.

The only thing wrong with them is that they lock their bathrooms, but they kind of had to do that since they became such a popular hangout.

You might try pastries, cookies, quick breads, etc...

A nice selection of waters.

LIVE MUSIC as soon as you can afford to do it...until then, you need a good system to pipe it in...maybe satellite radio so you can play different stuff for different crowds.

I would go smoke free, you would not believe how many places aren't, and those of us who don't smoke can't get away from it.

You can also do ice cream but this would mean that you need more storage.

My suggestion is to start with a very basic menu of whatever, and add new items SLOWLY. However, with those few things that you do serve, get very high quality ingredients. You can consider going organic, and please use fair trade ingredients (where the grower makes a reasonable living producing for you.)

Internet connection is a must have. Also, me and my friends are always complaining because about lack of college nights. You should have one night a week dedicated to college students studying. Studying college students will buy tons of coffee if you supply them with a quiet environment. Then the other 6 nights of the week theyll come, party, and buy more coffee!

i wouldn't do hookah because then a lot of the younger crowd can't go. and maybe for the name just the hideout because its got to be easy to say. i love good customer service, thats honestly the main reason i go where i go. i also like local bands and stuff. good stuff, you should do it, and make it near a high school or something.

Follow your inspiration and have purity in your heart when doing business. Stick with it even when losses come. The clouds of loss will be replaced by sunshine of profit.

Money will come with purity and leave with impurity and cheating

Good Luck!

I'd go to a place with quieter but current music, have teas, iced teas, and non-sweet food options. Comfy seating, wi-fi, trendy decor, and servers who don't look like Starbucks clones.

italian sodas! I never find them i enough places! and Starbucks doesn't have them so you'd be different. As for the name...not too sure about a dirty bird in the title, but whatever floats your boat.
