how do you know if there is poison in the bone?

When i take my dog out of it's cage, my dog goes somewhere and finds bones. I do not know where they come from or why they are there. There is no soil there, so I'm sure that my dog isn't the one who kept it somewhere. It might be the neighbors, because they know that i have a dog. Maybe they are thieves, because it will bark if there is an unknown person in sight. How do i know if there is no poison?

According to veterinarians, no bone, whether raw or cooked, is safe for a dog to eat. Don't panic if he does but take them away and don't allow it if you want to increase his chances at a healthier life.

They could just be giving your dogs bones because they think they're being nice. People used to give my dogs ham bones all the time, but I told them not to unless they were raw.

There is no way to tell if it's poison or not, so the best thing to do would be to take all of the bones away from the dog.

I guess you don't.. Only thing you can do is check your yard before you let the dog go out, supervise him when he is out.... Keep an eye out for him. Probably a neighbour is throwing the bones over the fence. We used to have a nutcase that would drive by and throw a soup bone in our yard every few months or so. We had to go out every morning with the dogs and check the yard to make sure they didn't come across something.. You could post a sign on your fence saying " Please don't feed my dog "

I don't know how you could tell if there was poison, but i would be on the safe side and take the bone away, and buy your dog its own bones. you never know what some people will do.

Generally, never let your dog eat anything you haven't given him.

Train him to give them to you. Bribe him with food.
