What are your thoughts? Did the Catholic church do the right thing? Should we respect an ideology that had no problem with this method of punishment?

(Bruno was gagged, stripped naked and hung upside down in Rome's Piazza di Campo de Fiori and burnt alive for his heretical view that the sun was the centre of the solar system. Turned out he was right)

Yes, the Catholic Church apologized - in 2000. That's exactly 400 years too late if you ask me.

Certainly not!
It was not right what they did.

I don't respect Catholicism at all, that's why I left the damn religion completely.

if i remember correctly, heliocentrism was the least of his heresies - he also believed that there were other worlds with people on them for example. and i don't think the manner of execution was intended as punishment, more like an example to others, for their protection.

however, i don't think that heretics should be burned, or even censored. any system that claims to be self-evidently correct shouldn't need to terrorise people to get them to see that it's correct!

Even the Catholic Church admits it did the wrong thing. The question is have they learned from their mistakes???

Peace to you.

No they did not do the right thing. It is unfortunate that such a great person was born during those times.
