Canonization is to be official declared a saint. Beatification is the step before it.

Beatification the person is referred to as Blessed "name"

Canonization the person is referred to as Saint "name"

Hope this helps.

Canonization (also spelled Canonisation) is the act by which a Christian Church declares a deceased person to be a saint, declaring that person is included in the canon, or list, of recognized saints.

In the Catholic Church (but not the Eastern Catholic Churches), the act of canonization is now reserved for the Vatican and ends at the conclusion of a long process requiring extensive proof that the person proposed for canonization lived, and died, in such a way that he or she is worthy to be recognized as a saint.

To be canonized is to have ones date of martyrdom placed on the calendar of the year for permanent commemoration. If not a martyr, then a wonderworker's date of death.

To be beatified is to be placed in a book commemorating and remembering the lives of holy people, essentially a short biography of everyone who has been considered truly holy and had an impact on the faith.
