Use shaving cream and a good, new razor (I use Schick Quattro for women). Shave during/right after you shower, you get a better shave that way. Shave the opposite direction of hair growth for the closest shave (most women's leg hair grows downward, so shave up the leg; though it may vary slightly from person to person). I also like to use a good lotion on my legs afterward to keep them soft.

I have a friend who shaves in cold water, because I guess she gets a closer shave when she has goosebumps. I don't know if that's a good idea though. Sounds scary.
Other girls I know shave every single day.
I, however, use a men's razor. Mach 3 or something like that. It's really nice. I'm a firm believer in lotion, as well. I actually use a shaving lotion, rather than a cream, and then I use regular lotion when I'm done.

Try soaking legs in warm water to soften hair and open pores. Then use hair conditioner instead of shaving gel and shave in the opposite direction of hair growth with a triple blade razor.

Take a hot bath and let them soak for awhile then put some saving gel on your legs then shave and after put on some good lotion and they should stay smoother longer. The trick is to get your hair soft and pliable then shave.

You probably have sensitive skin. I have this too, and I have finally found a combination that works really well for me, and my legs have never been softer. You can try this too -
Use the venus gilette disposable razors for women
Use Noxema senstive skin shaving cream
Have some sort of lotion to use soon after getting out of shower - while your legs are still damp (I usle Olay skin plumping lotion)
And keep some medicated bump reducing pads to use when you get red spots
This has really worked for me. I hope it works for you too!

shave close and use lotion or soak your legs in warm water a little before shaving to prevent ingrown hairs and prickliness. Also, use a three bladed razor for a close shave.

you pretty much have to shave every day to keep them smooth... but you can try two other things as well.. 1) before you shave, exfoliate your legs so that all dead skin is removed.. this will allow more of the hair to be cut off 2) try one of those hair diminishing lotions (jergens makes a pretty good one) it's supposed to make the hair finer, which means it would be smaller and smoother.. not as prickly... but the best thing for keeping legs smooth the longest is to use a hiar removing cream or waxing your legs

If have shaven rite, there shouldn't be any prickly bits, try shaving again and use a shave cream. Always remember to moisturise after shaving, as you are shaving off a layer of skin!

First it depends on what products you are using to shave with..the product that works best for me since my hair starts to grow back quick, is body dew, a product purchased I purchased at a passion party, it maintains the smoothness for an additional day or so... good luck
