Why is salvation selfish if it is open to everyone. Your question does not have the ring of truth, as for going to Heaven that is a bonus.

You don't understand that when we become Christians our motives for all we do begin to align with the mind of God. He teaches us His will and we are transformed into a better person because of Him and His love. We do things because of the loving relationship we have with the Father. This doesn't happen instantly, but is an ongoing process. Our actions here on earth cannot get us into heaven, only Jesus Christ can redeem us. But, because of the salvation experience, one loses their selfishness and begins to understand true love and the joy it brings to share that love with others. Obeying God (not religion) has it's rewards here and in the after life, but only if our motives are pure and not self-seeking. That's what we learn as God shows us how to really love others with no expectations for repayment from others or from God. The act of being kind to someone is it's own reward. Rather than keeping track of any good things we might do, we are spending that time trying to know God, and seeking opportunities to share His love with others. This is something He does within us......it's not of ourselves and we seek no personal glory......any glory belongs to the God of Abraham who is faithful and will change any heart that asks Him.

One thing you need to know is just because A person does something does not make them saved it 's because they are saved they do things. If you are doing the will of the Lord then your reward will be in heaven. and also on earth because the Lord sees and rewards. So, what I do is not geared toward my heavenly reward it is because my name is in the book of life that I do these thing.

I would love to get to heaven and see the room that can be prepared for me by the Heavenly King, but I don't just obey (or try to obey, as I'm not perfect) to save myself from getting thrown into eternal fire; I do so as to be with the Heavenly Father and eternally sing and glorify His name! I do it out of my Love for my Heavenly CREATOR! He wants a relationship with His children! I tell you the truth, I feel better when I do right by Him instead of wrong! Jesus touched my soul, Sister, HE TOUCHED MY SOUL! Man, He makes me feel ALIVE! Yeah buddy!
I'm not perfect, but I'm working on improving, with God's help! Jesus died the most PAINFUL death to free me and to help me worship our Heavenly Father, and for me to have a chance to get saved. I LOVE THE LORD! GOD BLESS HIMSELF! ALLELUJIAH!

sheesh ... some Christians are so selfish, self involved and self aggrandizing that they gleefully hope for the destruction of our beautiful planet because they imagine they'll be rewarded with a jewel encrusted crown and a golden throne next to Jesus once the Earth lays in smoldering ruin. they believe that their god will give them a new Earth despite the fact they didn't give a crap about the gift of this Earth.

No. I give very little thought to any "heavenly reward". I just figure I have one shot at this, so I better make it count.
"I expect to pass through this world but once; any good thing therefore that I can do, or any kindness that I can show to any fellow-creature, let me do it now; let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again." - Etienne Grellet
Peace to you.

I obey my religion because God LOVES ME, and for NO other reason. I do not fear punishment, I do not desire reward. I do everything to follow my Lord's will because He gives me life... I do it out of gratitude and love.
Have a blessed day.

Not at all; thats a bonus. I love my Lord Jesus. I'm not trying to "rack up points" Many people who are not Christian do not understand true Christianity. Doing things to get into heaven doesnt fit in with Christian theology. Christian theology teaches that not one is good. That we do not get into heaven by anything that we do at all. We are called to believe in Him; with that true belief we will naturally with the Holy Spirit do those good things, for the spirit of God is in us. We are already Gods own at that point. Good question and Gods peace to you :-)

God says we should live for Him and work to please Him, not just to get to Heaven. Knowing God is enough of a reward. Still, eternity is a much longer time than we will spend on this earth, so it's worth it to live for God because it will count for more in the long run.

No, I obey because it is the right thing to do, and I could live like this forever, and will be when Jesus takes us to our reward.
