I have been struggling in school and I am dropping out. But I want to join the Marines so I want to get my GED right after I graduate. After I join the Marines will it be easier to get accepted into a college with the Marines backround?

I'm sorry to break this to you, but the Marine Corps does not accept GEDs. The only exception for that rule is if you have 15 college credits. A Marine told me this once, "if the kid can't deal with the work in high school, what makes him believe he will make it in the Marines?"

Here's a good plan:
Crack down on the books and do as well as you can with the remainder of time you have left in high school. If you can do that, then that makes you more mentally able to become a Marine. Work out often and be as physically fit as possible, the military needs strong people for times just like now. Also, if you graduate from high school and get 12 college credits, you will enter with an automatic promotion to Private First Class.

When the time comes you'll find out if you're mentally and physically able to hack it, but you will only make your life harder if you drop out of high school!

the Marines WILL NOT TAKE YOU with a GED. if you graduate High school, you will not have a GED, and therefore will be able to enlist.

while being in the Marines by and of itself will not get you accepted into any college( that is strictly on your own merits and test scores) , you can get some discipline while in that will make it easier to get through it,a s well as the GI Bill to help pay for it.

Having a marines background will not make getting into college any easier then not joining the marines. The part that will hinder your college acceptance to anything but an online university or community college will be the fact the you dropped out of high school. I do strongly recommend finishing your high school education.

Is it GED or graduate? Pick one.
If you are dropping out of school because you've been "struggling" choose a different branch of service. The Marines don't need quitters.

Colleges will probably look favorably on good military service but having a GED won't make it easy, regardless.

If you're struggling with High school and want to quit because it's hard, then reconsider the Marines. They don't want quitters. They also aren't real keen on people who find high school hard. Jeez, High school is the easiest thing you will ever do after you are 13!

Also, if you are struggling with high school, why are you considering college? College is like High school, except it comes at you five times as fast, and if you don't get it, tough. No one cares if you flunk college, they have your money.

If you can't handle high school I don't think you will be able to handle the Marines or college.
Some colleges give you credit for military service but they will still be looking for a high school diploma. If you have a GED and some basic college credits you may be able to get into regular programs.
I would suggest getting thru high school and getting a regular diploma. If you are having trouble talk to your guidance counselor or parents.

Stay in school. If you can't make it through high school, how do you expect to make it in the Marines?

Even if you are struggling, you make make it through high school if you work hard enough. Please don't give up on yourself. Have faith in yourself and work hard and you can do it.

Anything in life that is worth something is worth working for. Once you graduate from high school and earn that diploma, you will know that you accomplished something.

Don't drop out of high school. Deal and continue with it.. Afterwards, plan on joining the Marines. In order to attend college, you need certain credits obtained in high school. Also, talk to your parents and your school counselor. That's what my cousin who's in the army did.

Good luck.

Study harder, Pay attention, Listen to your Teachers.

If you drop out of school just because it is a little hard, then you don't have the guts for military life!

Don't drop out of school. Stay in there and be tough! Go to the Counselor, talk to him/her, tell them why you aren't getting on in school. Many communities have 'Alternative Schools' for kids who don't function well in a regular school setting. I've been involved with one in my community and I can tell you they can help, but you have to do your share and ask.
