My doctor had me on 10mg Methadone 2x daily and 5mg oxycodone ir 3x daily for B/T pain. I was on the Methadone for 1 week and he switched me to 20mg oxycontin 4x daily with the 5mg's for BT. Do I need to wait for the Methadone to be out of my system or is it ok to start on the oxycontin during the methadone is still in my system? I last had a methadone at 8am this morning and only 5mg's (broke it in half). The stuff didn't help my pain at all! then when I read the withdrawals from methadone lasts WAY longer then the oxy, it was a no brainer!

I am an RSD patient and do take many drugs unfortunately. In the list of things I do take is Methodone as well as Oxycotton - the change over you are talking about in minimal - not to belittle your condition at all as anytime someone hurts all the time it is sad. It is completely safe to just start the change over this afternoon you won't have any side effects or ill effects or probably even notice that you are missing the Methodone. A large misconception in the general population of those that don't have to take pain pills on a regular basis is the dependence or addiction factor. If you truly have pain then there is none. Just like an antibiotic that attaches itself to an infection cell - a pain pill attaches itself to a nerve or muscle or cell that is producing pain as long as there is something for it to attach itself to there is no extra running around your system to be addictive. This is how my pain management doctor explained it to me as I too had many of the same fears, especially during increasing time or time to add something else to the mix.
Take care and hoping you feel better soon.

You should call the vet and ask them. Absolutely do not give her any sort of pain killer made for humans like acetaminophen/paracetamol, cats cannot process that type of medication and even smaller doses can cause organ damage/failure. Since your cat already has a kidney problem I think she'd probably be extra susceptible to that type of problem? If you don't think the vet is being helpful maybe find a new vet to see her? If she's in a lot of pain you could try to find an animal hospital that is open on weekends.

What are you taking the pain meds for?

You should be fine. You're not withdrawling from anything you're just substituting.
