i am a catholic and i went to confession. i promised to never commit the sins i have committed again. I asked God to please keep my sins between Him and me. i do not want others to know the wrongdoings that i have done.

after going to confession, and truly sorry for my sins, will God answer my prayer? Is it too selfish of a prayer?

I hope that after confessing my sins, other ppl will not find out and tell others what i have done.

I don't know what your sins were, and it is none of my business, but your sins and prayers are between you and God, unless God wants you to apologies to some one, other wise, the only people who find out will come from you, because God will not tell them. But God answers prayers that are sincere, and yours sounds sincere, and truly sorry for them, I don't see why He wouldn't answer them. God loves you and He knows your heart. Trust in Him, and every thing will work out. God bless.

God will always answer your prayers -you don't want others to know and God will make sure that no will- so don't you go and tell anyone but God!!! The best way that I found to get me out of that revolving door of committing a sin -then confessing it and the another sin and on and on...well first thing to do is ask Jesus to come into your heart and stay forever. Do this when you are alone. And He will accept your invitation. You may have already done this-and that would be good-so if you did then ask God the Father send Jesus to you to baptize you in the Holy Spirit. (this has nothing to do with "water" -this is a spiritual baptism and Jesus is the baptizer. The Holy Spirit will come and be "IN to you" and He is your "HELPER" -He will lead you to all the truth and you will stop sinning. There will be a cleansing of your life and He will do the cleaning for the rest of your life and then forever. Some where others will come into your life and be your friend in all of this. That is enough for now. So, stick to this program and live a dedicated life to God.That is all you have to do. If friends or family see a change in you , it's best to tell them about this too. There is a Catholic church that can help guide you in this too-but not any catholic church or priest but one who knows all about it. Best to pray all of this and then to check it out.

I thought that in the Catholic confession, you had to confess your skins before a priest who acted like a middle-man between you and God?

I always hated that about the Catholic Church. I can pray. Why can't I just ask God directly for forgiveness?

I think the key point is that you asked for forgiveness, repented. As far as the secrecy, God isn't going to tell anyone, but depending on the nature of the sin, some people may find out. Whatever it is, I hope you're okay.

God only answers the prayers if it is a part of His will.

I must now ask why you confess your sins to a man and not to God Himself? A priest cannot forgive you of your sins, and by you telling a priest someone already knows about the wrongdoings that you have done.

I cannot count the number of times I promised never to commit this sin or that sin again. Your intentions are noble, but you forget you are a human imprinted with a sin nature. You can't escape it.

Thankfully, God knows it is not you who sins, but the sin nature inside you. When you ask God to forgive you, He is faithful. He not only forgives you but forgets the sins altogether. So don't worry about God telling others.

If your sins are that disturbing to you, why do you go to confession? Did you not know that you can go directly to God? That's why Jesus died on the cross.

The bible says that when Jesus died, the curtain in the Temple that separates the Holy of Holies (God's dwelling place where only the Levite priests were allowed) and the Inner Court (where the sinners stood) was torn in two. Jesus bridged that chasm between you and God. So go directly to Him in prayer.

All prayer is good. And it doesn't help to ask for additional help in protecting these secrets where there is very little chance anyone will ever find out anyway. The seal of confession by the priest so well defended that a priest has to be willing to go to prison or/and die than violate it. If I am not mistaken, a priest would be automatically excommunicated for any such revealations. I would say not to worry about it that much. They, themselves, have heard it all.

True repentance is with the heart and not just with the mouth. and confessing is wonderful but to not do what you promised not to do is great. If it is something that you think that you might do again or find your self doing it again just remember that we are full of sin and mistakes. God is true to his word if only we could be. Remember that LORD knows all thing. Your beginning and end so don't freight just pray that the will of the LORD be done in your life. in saying these things to you I must also say " Let not mercy and truth forsake you."

If the priest gave you absolution, then you are forgiven.

As for others finding out what you have done, the priest will NEVER, even on threat of death, discuss your sins with anyone else....not even you.

As for discovery from another source, there is a possibility that will happen. But that is a natural consequence of our actions. You may suffer some fallout in the eyes of the world. But you can rest assured that with a truly repentant heart and a firm purpose of amendment, that you are forgiven. Eventually, if those who discover your past see your change, it will only be a testament to your change in heart, and of the joy of forgiveness.

You can bear whatever embarassment you might suffer with the joy of knowing that you are forgiven. Your God and your community welcome you with open arms.

I cannot understand why you have to go to a priest for confessing your sins. I am a Muslim and there is no intermediary between you and God Almighty. You do not have to even confess your sins before Him. He already knows. Just repent and promise not to commit sins again.

But even if you do, God can pardon you again. Famous poet
Rumi has put it like this:

"There is a call from the Lord of Universe
Come back, come back, no matter what you did
Even if you broke promises one thousand times
not to commit sins !
Our court is not a Court of pessimism.
But a place of hope and happiness!

The real God actually loves His creatures. He is always happy when you come back to him. Jesus Christ has also mentioned an example of disobedient son of a rich man, who
had run away from home, after committing some mischief.
But when he returned tired, sick and poor. His father holds
a grand party in his honour and invites the whole town . God
is really happy with repentence. And for this purpose, believe me! you need not discuss your sins with any one. One of His
Qualities is to hide the sins of those who repent in their hearts. He is closer to us than our jagular vien!

The door of repentence is open till one sees the angel of
death for an individual and for humanity as a whole, till appearance of Sun from the West.

Just try by saying this: " Oh my God ! I am really ashamed of
what I have done. Please accept my aplogy and help me not
to repeat them even once" and see for yourself the peace and
tranquality you feel in your self.

The way I see it you must ask yourself one question. What is more important my relationship with Christ or what other people think of me. We all do things we hope will never see the light of day. You seem very sincere in your repentance and yet you fear those sins will come to light. The scriptures say perfect love casts out all fear. So my advice to you is: do not worry about it your sins are forgiven and if by some chance they are made known God will help you deal with it. The important part is God will never remember them against you again.
