I know that TV's have become quite complex, but computing has become something that some people are utterly against because of the complexity.

I use microcontrollers, in design and constructiuon, yet I have no strength when it comes to internet jargon.

No, a general purpose computer will never be as simple as a TV. The reason is that a general purpose computer can do a lot more things.

Of course, you can build or buy a limited purpose computer that isn't much more difficult to use than a TV. A TIVO is a linux computer that is designed to do a limited number of things very well. For that matter, modern (digital) TVs have the equivalent to a computer built into them. It's just designed so that it can preform a limited number of functions so that the user never sees the complexity.

As the guy said in the Wizard of Oz said, "Don't look behind the curtain!"
