I work at a vet clinic and I see labs all the time. They are just the best dogs in the world! I mean sure they are hyper but just so sweet. I would love to own a lab but I can not afford a dog right now. When I can I will be getting one. Do any of you own a lab?

Who couldn't fall in love with them once they give you that "You are my whole world" look? My 2 year old black lab is joyful, loving, calm, well-behaved, obedient, a wonderful companion at all times and a great hunting dog. I looked into rescuing a lab (we have lots of rescued animals - chickens, ducks, goats, horses, cats and dogs) but because I specifically wanted a dog with hunting skill, I chose to buy from a registered breeder of hunting dogs. She has exceeded my expectations in absolutely everything I have ever asked of her.

I highly recommend a lab but do make sure you have the time to devote to him/her. The more time you can spend with them, the better... they thrive on lots of love and attention.

I would also recommend the book "Marley & Me" by John Grogan. It's about a very funny lab and his family.

Best of luck with your baby, when you get him or her!

I have 3 Labs. A 10 y/o black male, a 10 y/o yellow female and a 5 y/o black female. We also have a 9 y/o Border Collie. Labs will always be in our house.
They can be hyper when they are younger but as they mature they become great, stable, loving dogs. My 2 females will follow me around the house, wait outside the bathroom door and lay nearby when I'm on the computer.
You can't ask for a better all around dog.

I have a lab and a lab mix. Mine are certainly wonderful dogs, but that doesn't mean I think everyone should have a lab. I would not consider them a better breed over any other...it just depends on the owners likes and lifestyle.

Mine are both wonderful companions, but I do wonder if their stomachs are made of steel. I have seen some things pass through my dogs that I did not believe was possible...they insist on putting EVERYTHING in their mouths.

Yes I love Labrador Retrievers! I use to have a black lab/chow mix named Rocky he lived to be a little over 13 years old - One of the best dogs I have ever known. Fiercly loyal and extremely adventurous. I can honestly say nothing bad about him. He was awesome!
Just recently I adopted an american black labrador and her name is Sugar. She's about 5months right now and she is such a sweet girl as I think all Labradors are. She's extremely fun oriented and loves to be around her family. She also has an adventurous streak. I took her up in the mountains today and she absolutely loved it.

Yep I love labs! Well except their shedding. I rescued an adult and then my son rescued a half lab half cocker spaniel. The Adult became my daughter's. I swear the dog cried for 2 days when my daughter would go back to college and laugh when she heard my daughter's car. She know lives with her momma and is spoiled rotten. The mix could actually put a purebred to shame with her hunting stance. What wonderful dog!!

There is an old saying that a Retriever retrieves because you teach it to, and a Lab retrieves because it loves you and wants you to be happy. They may not be the best dog breed, but they certainly are wonderful.

Yes, a black lab.
They are not really hyper. They need to be walked and exercised frequently, like all dogs, but are not really hyper.
Those that are are probably not taken out
very much.

I don't but I've pet sit a few and they are very good dogs. I was around one today and after I pet it and scratched its neck, it was my new best friend.
