Presumably you have already taught him some things.
From the Bible, I would show Jesus saying Lazarus was "sleeping" in death. Certainly nothing to worry about as far as trouble for the dead family member.
Second, Psalms 146:4 the latter half, where it shows they lose all memory while dead.
Eccles. 9:5, 10 shows the dead are in no pain. Nothing can harm them.
Lastly, Acts 24:15 which shows the dead will be resurrected to life on earth turned into a paradise. With their full memories intact. Like Jesus, when God resurrected him and installed him as King of God's Kingdom, he restored every memory from his beginning before everything was created. (Coll.1:15) Is that not wonderful?
It is sad to lose anyone close, but know there is no suffering, just sleep until resurrected when the young one will see him again.

We need to tell the truth they will understand better and knows how to with stand the situation. For example: A couple meet with a accident .both of them admitted in the hospital .they had two children eldest child is around 4 yrs .the youngest one in that family is 1 year ,from the hospital they informed grand parent .with some surgery the child’s father discharged ,he was at home ,children granny came to help his daughter. Her daughter was in the intensive care. for more then a year. This 4 year old child her name is crystal Ann used to be with his granny all the time the child understand s the situation at home. She does not show her feeling before her father or granny or her brother she will go inside one room where no one will be there. She will weep for Mins and while coming out she will wipe her tears.

"Truth should not be hided"
It depends upon the current mentallity of the youngster yaar.
If he/she is already stressed because of some other issues then wait for a perfect time to come.
Tell them in the way they can accept it. Parents should always teach their children about life and death. It will definetly set them in the right path whenever they go wrong.
And also they will live the 'only once granted' LIFE to its fullest.

Yes,just as we accept birth of a new family member, death of a member should be made known and eventually accepted by all in the family.

I believe that it depends on what the age of the child is. A very young child I would probably say something like he or she has gone to live with Jesus but would expect to have questions from the child. You should answer these as truthly and gently as possible.

Yes ofcourse, a truth such as this cannot be hidden at all, no matter how small a kid is.
Once he starts questioning, he will seek for truthful answers. By hiding it, you will only lose his faith in you.

yes a child should understand death.......i know my kids do. in the course of 18 months thier grandpa and great grandpa have died and i almost died twice due to miscairages......the first time when they took me to er the batroom was completely covered in my blood. i was in icu for 2 weeks and then in a regular room for 2 weeks. my kids saw the bathroom before it could be cleaned they were sure i was dead and had to wait for me to get out of icu to see i was ok. second time we caught it faster and they got me to er before i lost so much blood. i knew my kids had to understand death if they wanted to know why mommy wasnt having a baby anymore and when they noticed their grandpa and great grandpa were gone. its not fair to not help them understand........
