Most people on here are NOT professionals. If they claim to be I would be suspicious. A responsible professional is not going to give out advice over the internet only knowing a very small portion of what is going on. It's irresponsible and could even be dangerous. I believe the answers we get/give on here are mostly based upon our own experiences. I know mine are.
However, sometime advice from someone who's been through it can be far better then advice from someone who's studied a book and read about how to fix it.
Sometimes we know how to handle things on our own and it's just comforting to hear from others who have gone through it rather than listening to someone who thinks they know how they would handle a situation. I do not believe anyone can truly know how they would actually handle a situation until they are in it.
You take the advice that makes the most sense to you and don't worry about what others think.

Hey,
Once you feel the answers you choose are working for you or that they solve your problems, you need not worry where you got them from. You need not also tell others that all the problems you solve are because of these online sites. We are all giving our comments, basically giving our opinions after hearing what the asker says. But the best answer is chosen by the asker, so, ultimately if you think the judgement is done by the asker. So, you should take credit for solving your problems. We get to hear many things from many places or see many things in mny places, what we do with those information is absolutely based on our intelligence and judgement skills.
Dont make the parents feel bad, they generally do things for the good of you. Your parents also have experience and comments about how things work. It does not matter whether you should weigh the online sites more than the parents or vice versa, but the fact is that you take decisions based on your judgement of a situation after hearing out many people.
Ultimately if you are safe and happy, that is what everyone wants..
all wishes..

You've got to understand that most of us on here are going by our experience or offering opinions on a very small amount of details we receive from the poster of the question. Because we don't know the entire background of the situation, our answers may not be the best solution for the problem. Also as the asker, when you choose the best answer, you could be choosing what you want to hear rather than solid advice that contradicts what you want. This site is only as good as the people who are on it so you've got to take everything with a grain of salt and still try to resolve your problems on your own. It doesn't mean that you have to stop using these sites but only use these answers are guidance to sort out your thoughts.

I can only speak for myself though I'm sure its true for most people here that when advise is given it is through our own experiences. You would find a combination of answers that could vary both ways, however the general feeling would probably be the same over all. I myself wouldn't worry about what my family or relatives think. If its a problem you might wish to keep your sources for your answers to yourself to keep from having arguments. Though I know personally if I am troubled or have a problem I will go ask others who might be a little older, wiser, or have been through something similar and listen to what they have to say. Besides its a very good way of release or venting when you have a problem and too confused to take the moments to relax and look at it from different angles.

Asking and answering questions on advice websites is pretty harmless stuff. Maybe your relative is concerned about the amount of time your waste online. Just tell them that it's your entertainment.

I would take the answers which made sense to me, and were helpful... whether i liked the answer or not wouldn't be a factor in many cases.
sometimes the advice we get is very good, even if we do not like it.
how can someone 'believe in' question and answer websites? i dont' get it.
