then how in the world can there be an unforgivable sin....
the bible says that through christ all sins will be forgiven and cast as far out as the east is to the west....so if not ALL sins can be forgiven then the bible contridics itself.

The unforgivable sin in blasphemy. It consists in misusing one’s training and education in the Scriptures to publicly and knowingly slander the Holy Spirit by misleading people into thinking that He is Satan. Clearly no one who does this can be forgiven, because it is through the Holy Spirit that we are forgiven. Also, no one who thinks that the Holy Spirit is Satan will permit himself to be guided by Him or filled with Him or given gifts by Him. So just as pulling the main breaker in your house means that you can never receive electricity, blaspheming against the Holy Spirit means that you can never receive forgiveness, because it turns off the tap through which forgiveness flows. This is not the sort of sin that an ordinary person can commit. Blasphemy is deliberate, public slander. In order to commit this sin, you have to be in a position of learned authority.

Hello,

I have heard theologians say that the sin against the Holy Spirit that is unforgivable can range from not believing in God or accepting Jesus through to suicide where you essentially give up all hope and spit in the face of God.

That said, I was going over this question earlier today and the biggest consensus seems to be Bradon's point of view above that says people who are in an authoritative position religiously and teach that the works of the Holy Spirit are from Satan or other sources.

Cheers,

The Bible is many different people telling the story as it unfolded. Just as all facts are expected in the news of today many people see things kind of different. You are missing the point. Read with understanding that the script is very old and subject to translation faults however, the main understanding isn't tarnished. By the way there is a spell checker on the page just above the text box.

The only unforgivable sin is giving credit for Gods work to the devil.

That is what blasphemy actually is.

I know of no true believer whom would give credit to the devil for what God has done for them or another.

In the bible, this sin was attributed to the leaders of the temple in Jerusalem. They told the people that the miracles and the healings that Jesus was doing were the work of the devil and not of GOD.

Jesus called them hypocrites and charged them with blasphemy, the only unpardonable sin.
Basically, they knew better and did it anyway.

The bible says that all sins will be forgiven but one, which is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.

Matthew 12:31 - Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.

Matthew 12:32 - And whosoever speaketh a word agaisnt the Sonof man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.

Dear Friend,

Lets start at the beginning. Adam and Eve sinned (rebelled) against God. Mankind sins against God.

There is ONE unpardonable sin, however, and that is... the sin against Holy Ghost (Spirit). To reject the Power of the Holy Ghost (Spirit).

Jesus said in Matthew 12:30, 31 "He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.
31Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the HOLY GHOST shall not be forgiven unto men.

But what God is saying is, if a person does not "repent" then they will not be forgiven, no matter what they have done.

We either accept ALL of God, or none. God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit (Ghost). Does that make sense?

Any sin can be forgiven my friend. But, we must ask forgiveness first, in order for God to forgive us. God "knows" our hearts. If we do our part, God does His.

Sincerely in Christ Jesus,

lostnsavd...

My understanding is that the only unforgiveable sin is "blasphemy against the Holy Spirit". My understanding of what that is, is basically not accepting God's payment for your sins by not believing in Him.

All sins are forgivable before Him..
think about Paul, David, Solomon..many more..
David = Adultery
Paul = Persecuted God
Solomon = Adultery++

God showed us their sin so we won't follow their wicked ways instead the good works they have done..

Before your soul and body separated, you must repent all your sins with all your heart, by then you'll be forgiven even if you commit the greatest sin..but be sure you will do that before you die..

there is no unforgivable sin, and the new testament does not say that there is such a thing as unforgivible sin. but to be forgivin the heart must be truly repentant, and only you and God knows if you are truley repentant. if not, the sin is not forgiven because you truely are okay with the sin. in the old testament, (look up deutronomy and leviticus) each sin had it's prescribed repentance. for example, if you worked on the sabbath you were required to offer two rams and 1 dove to the temple for sacrifice. also, there were people at the temple who sold such items for such purposes. hence, the "Lamb" of God, Jesus, was the final sacrifice. in other words, we no longer have to take animals to the temple to be burned.

All sins can be forgiven but one, the sin of dying without accepting Christ.

Christ will accept the life of anyone who comes to give it to him.....don't let anyone lie to you......ANYONE can accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour.
