how does one then make the leap from that to "it must be this specific or these specific creators/designers"? This is mostly directed to those of you who came to your faith through scientific study or argument...

Evolved, actually ID in most of it's forms is not Genesis... but most of the people supporting ID are Christians so they will use scientific and psuedo-scientific arguments to support their beliefs. The majority of ID does not support the literal translation of Genesis at all...

Why must there be a designer / creator entity?
Let us say that God is the Creator (as some claim) - then the question becomes who created the Creator? Showing this line of thought is null and void. Cannot answer it's own question.

The other answer is - there is no creator / designer entity but a process. This is 'the Creation' - the life force in every living thing.

That planets do create life, such that it is tied to the planet.
And eventually produce humans...

It is not a leap of anything. ID is a Christian concept, no other religion that I am aware of subscribes to it.

It is Genesis, and that is all it is.

Therefore it is no leap for them to assume it is their god that is the I, in ID.

Intelligent design theory doesn't claim to identify the designer. Most of it's proponents think it is the Christian, God, but it is not because of design arguments that they think it is the Christian God. It just happens to cohere with Christian theism, so they make the connection.
