So I was talking to a mom friend today at my son's school. She has 3 children ages 1, 4, and 6. She was picking up her 6 year old. She said her 4 year old was on a play date. I asked her if her husband was watching her 1 year old and she said no, that he was working. She said her 1 year old had a fever and was crying so she put him to bed. She didn't want to wake him so..... she left him home, alone in his crib sleeping while she came to pick up her son. I said her name in disbelief and she said it was only 15 minutes. Would you ever do that? There are so many "what ifs". Is is really worth the risk. I am just in shock...

I agree with all of you. I failed to mention she is from a foreign country. Not that this makes it ok, but I'm wondering if something like this is more acceptable in foreign countries.... still a bad idea.

Mom3x ? As Al Jolson, the old soft shoe song and dance man said "You ain't seen nothin' yet" What people do with regard to their children could fill a book of horrors. Leaving a sick one year old in bed isn't a crime. Leaving a sleeping one year old in a locked car in summer hear is. You will see many more instances worse than that in your lifetime.

Oh lord.... What in the heck? Too many what ifs is right. Can you plz pull her aside and do me a huge favor. Tell her she can not do that anymore and here's why....
I have a son "zak". He was 1 1/2 and he decided to go outside and play. He let himself out of the house and I was sleeping - it was 6 in the morning. I never woke up. He went into the front yard and thank god a cop was driving by and brought him back. I had the cops at my door, with my son, soaking wet, crying and that was the best outcome in this situation. I was so lucky!!!!! And he was sleeping! Yeah right! Bad things happen when you are with them, what is she thinking?????
Tell her the teacher overheard you or another mother. They asked you if what they think they heard was true. Tell her it will be reported if it happens again. And don't mess around. Mean it for the kids safety!

Oh my goodness. I would've never done this with my children... That being said, I think you do have one advantage here in discussing it with her (if you are comfortable with that). Say that you know it's more acceptable and normal where she is from, but that it's illegal in the states.
My very good friend who has worked with many immigrants has had this type of discussion many times. It's taken well, so don't worry! Often, they simply don't know! Eek! Scary! You could also offer the next time that if she has to leave, you'd be happy to run over while the baby is sleeping so he wouldn't be alone. That could help with safety and helping her to see that it's not okay.

NEVER. It takes less than five minutes for an entire home to burn completely to the ground. Is this woman an idiot? Who schedules a play date when driving conflicts with nap schedules? What's wrong with going earlier or staying later? Apparently she never got the mommy memo that says put your babies first and your own needs last. She should have her children taken from her...

wow no way and she could get in alot of trouble for that. I do not even leave my 11month and 2 year old in the car when I drop my four year old off at school and it takes 1 minute to run him in very scary maybe you should talk to her nicely and tell why this bothered you so much she really should not do that.

To be honest, I'm not a father, but I know that I would never leave my sick 1 year old at home alone! Call me over-protective but I would watch over that kid all night if I had to!

Heck no! Thats insane! What is her deal? Thats illegal. I dont care how sick the baby is. Most baby's fall asleep in the car anyway, so wouldnt it be resting there??? I think she might have some mental issues. Not only could something terrible happen to her baby, but its also illegal. You think there would be more people with common sense in the world...
