As in " You know what, forget the guy behind me. He’s usually a POG and if he’s one of my own they'll understand." Just to sum it up, my love is a marine and he's describing that a lot of the guys are standing in line, on the ship, waiting for their turns to use the computers. ---I apologized for the "long email" that i sent him and wondered what the others guys behind him waiting in line must have thought.

Personnel Other than Grunts

Or a non infantry person.

Normally meant as a cut down.

POG is a Person Other than a Grunt.
It can also be written as "pogue".

My other favorite description for 'em is REMF (Rear Echelon Mother ****er. Pronounced reemf).
A buddy of mine who is trying to join the Air Force as a “rear with the gear” guy hears it a lot from me, ha-ha.
A way to get the stress out. The guys in the back are important, just not while your being shot at...usually.

POG: person other than grunt... GRUNT: synonym: pawn... would you rather be the pawn or the knight? while they might be "doing the hard work" you are helping the mission too... without you they might not get their precious ammo, without you they might not eat tonight, without you they might not get payed... just like the asshole joke, eveyone is important or else your job wouldnt exist. the asshole joke im refering to is as follows: the body's organs were fighting about who was the leader: the brain says: i am, i command everyone the heart says: no, i am, i pump the blood through the body the liver says: no i am, i supply all the nutrients the asshole says: no i am -everybody laughs- the asshole proceeds to remain shut for a week the liver explodes, the heart stops pumping and the brain dies out moral of the story: even an asshole can be a leader

personnel other than grunt or infantry. just like navy are squids, marines are jarheads, soldiers are dogs, af are zoomies/chairforce.... pilots zoomies, LEG is a huge one in my neck of the woods and means anyone that isn't airborne or jump qualifed, just terms that are part of an unspoken pecking order among the guys.

person/people other then grunts...in other words a person that's not infantry...

it's kind of an insult..just like tankers are called dats(dumba$$ tankers)...part of the inter military rivalry...
