Good point.
Actually I understand the communists of the Soviet Union tried to change to a ten day system once.

The Roman calender, derived from earlier Ancient calenders, divided the months in half, and each half was 14 days long. It was based on the courses of the moon.

There were no weeks. Each day was measured by it's distance from either the Primae Kalendae, the Nonnes, or the Ides of each month.

The distance from the Primae Kalendae to the Nonnes was 7 days, from the Nonnes to the Ides was 7 days, and then two weeks until the next Primus.

Several centuries later, when the Julian calender was reformed, the halves were divided once again into seven day weeks, which were in turn evolved from Hindu tradition.

Early calendars were lunar that followed the phases of the moon to 14 days! These were probably then divided in to two weeks! The increasing and decreasing phases! The ancient hindus divided the day into parts aswell actually calculating the number of hours in a Day and the number of days in the year. You should visit India sometime and see the ancient sun dials they used to tell the time of the day!

It is how the sun calender was organized by the cultural winners of history. It isn't perfect though because we need to make up one day every four years (at least on the calender I use).
