Some cats actually love water. My cat uses his paw to drink his water, puts his toys in his water dish, and jumps in the shower with me. In fact I cannot take a shower without him. He will cry at the door to come. Mine doesn't sit in the tub but he does sit inside the curtain on the ledge of the tub.

OMG I thought I was the only person who had a wierdo cat that does the EXACT same thing?! Strange I have never been able to figure it out myself...I guess it's just the way they are. Try using a coloured bowl..I found that worked as any other bowl I used was causing a reflection and he would paw at it more..my cats water crazy enough that he actually takes his paw and pulls down the lever on my water cooler for a nice cold drink, which causes a big fat mess lol

Face it you have a strange cat!! Not really just kidding. Sorry. You do have a water kitty tho. Nothing wrong with this. Doesnt happen very often but does. I have had a few like that. Will make it easier should you want to bathe him. Try and this may sound strange, but empty his water bowl, put in an icecube, then just a little water so cube wont stick. It will entertain him as well as curb his appitite to dump water bowl. Do this once a day. Once icecube melts, gives cat some cold water to drink.

Glad I'm not the only one with a silly cat :) My girl Susie loves water and will constantly toss it out of her water bowl. Dominique, one of our males, will play with the water while I'm in the shower. If it's troublesome, then maybe divert his water bowl antics by leaving some shallow water in the bathtub (if you have one). Susie immediately forgets making a mess with the water bowl when some floating jingley balls are tossed into the tub.
He doesn't have to go the vet. There are cats that love water, some that only like it on certain terms, and some that will not have anything to do with it. Cats are truly individuals; what might be the "norm" for other cats doesn't necessarily apply to your cat :)

Im so glad I came across your question as i thought I also had a very strange kitten that loved water! My baby kitten (3 months) loves dipping his little paws in his water bowel and lately he has been jumping in the bath while i fill the bath up and loves it! he also whines when I close the bathroom door! But I fear because he is so small he will one day fall in and drown. I've never known cats to love water so much, but judging by how many people here say they have their own "water cats" it cant be that unusual! Guess we are pretty lucky so have such unique kitties!!

WOW! I love your cat. Each cat has their own personility. One of my cats loves to go outside in the back yard and if I don't let him out then he get mad.
Here is something funny for you.
When we first brought home my Serbrian Husky home 2 years ago, My Cat Buzz didn't like so he would take a Dump in the Shower. At First I thought it was my puppy. So, I was thinking wow what a smart dog. Found out a few weeks later it was the cat. He was letting me know that he didn't like heaving a dog in his house. Once he got use to my dog and later another dog he would go to the Tub and take a dump if his litter box wasn't clean. So I had to get on a ball by keeping it clean everyday.
---- So to answer your question no you don't have to take your cat to the vet.---- Just buy him a Kiddy Pool in the summer time and let him have fun outdoors with him or fill up the tub with a ankle height water and let him play in it!

It doesn't sound like there is anything wrong with your cat, so taking him to the vet might be a waste of money. Crazy as it may sound some cats just love to be wet and play in water. If you are concerned however, you could just call your vet about the problem, but I wouldn't spend the money for the vet to see him.

Some cats like sitting in water, like my cat. I know, quite weird!
I don't know what to say about the drinking water problem. Try moving the water dish away from the food dish? That might help.

I don't understand the big deal. Unusual for a cat to like water this much but he does.
Place his water bowl on a mat so water isn't everywhere.
Sounds to me like you have a pretty cool cat.

My cat did the same thing. She'd bat at the water in the dish until it was empty and everything around it was SOAKED. It was a pain to keep refilling the dish but I thought it was HILARIOUS. She outgrew it fairly quickly.
All cats are individuals with their own personalities. Enjoy your wonderful kitty!
