Did you purchase your Remington 700 CDL new? It really doesn't matter because the Remington 700 factory specifications are pre-set to 3.5 lbs. There is no need to adjust it lower. I was under the impression you purchased a NEW 700 CDL with the new X-mark adjustable trigger. I have several 700's that have the original triggers and although there is no outside dual adjustment like are on the newer models..I have no complaints as far as trigger pull or performance...Get some Snap Caps if you want to check your trigger pull.........

It was OK to start out with. But I have a Rem 700 VLS in 223. This is my go to varmint rifle. I want a smooth crisp trigger with no take up and no over travel. That was not the Remington trigger. There older models were a lot better than the one they are using on the 700 of the last few years.

I installed a Timney trigger and adjusted it about 1#. If you are going for accuracy dump the factory trigger. But you must remember that if you ever send your rifle back to Remington they will take what ever trigger you have in there and replace it with a stock Remington trigger. So if you replace it keep your old one. If you adjust the factory trigger they will remove it and replace it with a new trigger and any time they do this you will get a bill for $95 for a new trigger. Beware of this.

I have owned 3 700 Sendero's They were chambered in 300 RUM, 22-250 Rem, and 7mm RUM. They were overall fine guns with the exception of the 300. It had a bedding problem that Remington nor the Dealer would acknowledge So it cost $250.00 to remedy. I had the triggers reworked on all of them down to 2.5 lbs. because the over the counter triggers broke very hard they were much too heavy. They were supposed to be 3.5 lbs which would have been fine but there's no way more like 6-8 lbs. Hope this helps. JD answers About the 700 the way he does because he is a Remington dealer no doubt.

I seen the videos and read a few reports. Most of it is hype. I owned Remington stuff over the years and never had a problem with them. I just bought a Remington 700 SPS and tried to get it to fire without pulling the trigger. Wasted my time. . ., if I want it to go bang, I have to pull the trigger.

You mean that "10 pound" trigger that was designed by Remington's Legal Dept.?

Mine already had a trigger job when I got it and it breaks at just over three pounds...so I love it.

A good gunsmith can adjust the factory one for you.....but be aware that Remington will consider this a warranty-voiding modification.

Brownell's sells a lot of 700 replacement triggers as well that are a relative drop in replacement.

I have a couple (older, naturally) that are great, several that needed adjustment but are fine, and one that wound up in the trash bin, with an aftermarket replacement. With the stamped metal and plenty of little parts, they've never been a thing of engineering beauty, and it seems that for the last fifteen or twenty years they should have supplied a screwdriver with each rifle to make up for those "lawyer triggers," but they do generally seem to work well after you've played with them and cussed them the appropriate amount of time. Woe be unto you, though, if you lose a little spring in the carpet, not that that ever happened to me! (Ha)

I have an older Model 721 in 30-06 caliber manufactured in 1948 and the trigger pull is awesome, no creep, travel, slack & it breaks cleanly like a target trigger.* Fantastic trigger pull.*

I liked the original trigger fine, or at least I thought I did. It would break at around 6 lbs. I took it to a local gunsmith who did his magic on it, and it made a whole world of difference. It now breaks at around 3lbs with no creep at all, and my groups tightened up to just over moa at 200 yards with the right ammo. It was well worth the bucks to get it done. I've since met a couple of other people who are using Timney (?) triggers and they are incredible.
