"Similar to First Sergeant or Master Sergeant and such, I believe."
You can't compare a1SG - MSG with the Corporal - Specialist, a 1SG is a position of being the senior NCO in a company size organization. When the 1SG is not serving in that position he or she returns to being a MSG, a MSG may have command authority such as being the 'Chief of Smoke' in a consolidated Battalion Mortars
A Specialist generally will not be placed into a troop leading position however might be given authority over an individual weapon system, a Corporal is a junior NCO and often serves as a Team Leader. The Specialist is a hold over from the 1950's and 1960's when there used to exist SP4 to SP9 grades in the Army. The SP8 and SP9 disappeared in the early 60's, the SP6 and SP7 in the 1970's and the SP5 in 1985...........

SPC is a specialist in the Army and is indeed a E-4. E-4 is either specialist or corporal. Corporal is a Jr. non-comissioned officer and specialist is just basically saying you know your job...or supposed to. The Marines ranking system is very similar to the Army's so i would guess its the same

being ex-army i can answer this correctly. SPC means specialist. being a SPC is the same as a corporal. also known as a E-4. I was a SPC5 which means i was a sergeant E-5 specialist. if you want to know more about ranks in the services then go to the OFFICIAL sites for each one and find the CORRECT information there.

Specialist is a rank only held in the Army.
It is a rank held at E-4 but is not a leadership billet. E-4 is either a Corporal or Specialist. The Specialist is a technical rank while Corporals are a leadership rank.
Similar to First Sergeant or Master Sergeant and such, I believe.
