I've been here for a while, and I have seen how you all react to one another. Many on both side are ignorant to one another. Athiests are often ignorant to Christians and their faith in the bible. They don't want to learn, nor care to learn, but quick as a jackrabbit to criticize and ridicule. Christians are Oblivious to all scientific facts and care nothing about any other teachings religiously, unless it was said in the bible.

Some christians even said they love the god more than they love their OWN CHILDREN.

Neither of you are perfect, neither of you should be constantly playing this game of tug-of-war. Why don't you learn to respect beliefs, and respect choice of religion? Only then will we be able to have intelligent discussions, and not offend each other, all, the, time.

Why not start now? Say something nice about Atheism if you are a Christian. If you are a Christian, say something nice about Atheism.

To atheists: I think that you .......

I can't think of anything. I don't bash atheism. I used to be atheist. But i just can't think of anything to say positive about it. Its lack of faith and nothing more.

: I think you have a great standard for science....

ahhh. i am niether athiest or christian...i am buddhist, and i am guilty of being a little mean to christians. i don't intend to be rude, but sometimes they ask rude questions, or at least intentionally put it in a way that implies they know best. i just get sick of them always trying to belittle others without first turning a critical eye on themselves....i will join you in your effort here. and i will say, christianity is good in that it provides a good basis for learning morals and values, that could be learned in other ways, however religion is still a good way to learn them. it also gives people whom are lost in life or are a little weaker minded a way into empowerment, with little thought of thier own....it pretty much lives life for you.
and i feel a little closer to athiest people, but only because they are completely free to think and do what they choose, and still navigate life with morals and values as well as any christian could. i feel religion has its place, but not all people NEED it. thats why i have adopted more of a philosophy....i have nothing against either group....and i will try to seem less rude in the future, because you are absolutly correct here.

and although there are many other religions that can be included here as some of these answers will show, the main problem is with christians asking athiest questions, or aiming loaded questions toward nonbelievers, they are asking for most of the answers they recieve. they like the drama. i have not seen to many questions that athiest folks are asking about the bible...why? cause they don't really care. and for the information of Most christian folks, athiest people probably know more about your religion than you do....and THAT, is why they are athiest....so don't judge....research.

Many of the atheists here spent large portions of their lives as Christians. Of course they don't want to learn about Christianity, they already understand it very well.
And there are many Christians who do understand various scientific theories and accept them. I've also encountered many Christians with an obvious interest in other religions.

Incidentally, Christians and atheists do not constitute 'both sides'. There are thousands of other religions, as well as many agnostics who don't consider themselves theists or atheists. And why do we need to have sides anyway? Can't we just have people?

Well, I'm an Agnostic.

So to the Atheist & Theists:

May your beliefs give you the stregnth to live good lives.

To my fellow Darwinists: "Religion persists because it conveys a survival advantage on those who believe."

Try to see beyond the mythology to the effect. Debating the divintiy of Christ is pointless, understanding Christ's message is not.

Where we are going is more important than where we came from. How you treat your fellow man matters far more than what you think he evolved from.

Good question. Better questions:

When was the last time a political candidate spoke about his atheism?

When was the last time a political candidate got the endorsement from the Society for Secular Humanism and broadcast it over TV?

When was the last time a political candidate had a debate about existence?

The reason for all the bells and whistles re: religion is that it is ONLY religious people who seek to POLITICIZE every area of life, seek to LEGISLATE a Christian morality over every citizen, and seek to frame every issue in terms of Biblical law and Christian dogma.

If other people who disagreed with Christians didn't fight back as strongly as necessary, we'd all have only ONE POLITICAL PARTY, only ONE STATE RELIGION, only ONE STATE ENDORSED CREATIONIST MYTHOLOGY and we'd be in perpetual war with every country on earth.

The "nicest" thing I can say about Christianity is: At least catholics like to drink and smoke cigars.

Apparently the ignorance doesn't stop, since you fail to realize many here - on both sides - are fully and well educated about the religion in question.

Maybe if you were clear on your studies of the religion, you would see just what people actually DO know.

So, where's YOUR something nice to say? I didn't see you say ANYTHING nice.

You listed two groups - and ignored the rest of us. But I'll say something nice anyway - the majority of the christians and atheists I've met here are kind, well educated and know their stuff.

"Respect is an assumption of good faith and competence in another person or in the whole of oneself. Depth of integrity, trust, complementary moral values, and skill are necessary components."

By definition, respect is nigh impossible. Tolerance would be a more realistic goal, though even that will be a challenge.

It is not just Christians and athiests up here. But I get your point. I see extreme rudeness on both sides of the fence. That is why I don't hang around.

i'm not ignorant of the christian myth. i went to catholic gradeschool and highschool up til my senior year and i now go to public school. i criticize and ridicule BECAUSE i understand it better than the people i know who believe it.

i will never say anything nice about christianity. nothing good ever came out of it.

O.K., I'll start. Most christians I have seen are the most methodical and dependable people I know. I can count on them leaving their house for Sunday School every Sunday morning at 8 a.m. They also dress very nice, and drive nice cars.
