Just curious. I was never in the service or combat.to all others Oh yeah, you can talk bravely about disbelief now that you’re young and healthy, but wait until you need him, then you’ll see how you beg for him to save you or a loved one.

Of course...There are atheists everywhere. Most, as you mentioned, are young and healthy. As they get older, they become agnostic, then eventually find belief in something. It's a shame that atheists wait so long to give up their non-belief. None of us got here on our own. Believing in Something other than myself turned me around and made me understand and accept many things I had no explanation for. I'm far from religious, but I'm not alone anymore...

Of course there are.
If you've ever been in a war zone you'll know there is no god.
I spent a year in Vietnam 69/70 - when you see the faces of frightened and forever traumatised children of all ages you know there is no god.

I never once prayed to a god in Vietnam or any other place.
I figured if he didn't want to answer the millions of prayers that had already beseeched him there was no way he'd ever existed.

If you feel you need the help of an Invisible Sky Critter, you go for it.
You'll have as much success in asking the Pink Unicorn for help as you will if you ask Zeus or Allah.
Gods and Ghosties do not exist.
In the end the only one driving your life is YOU!

I wasn't in a fox hole, but I was on my death bed. People talk about how there are no atheists on death beds just like there are no atheists in fox holes, but when I was lying in critical condition, in and out of consciousness, being pumped full of magnesium sulfate because of blood pressure so high they thought I'd have fatal seizures, kidneys failing, optic nerves being crushed by a pituitary gland swollen so large they thought I had a massive tumor, my chances of survival rapidly diminishing, I never called out to any god... not even yours.

Atheists die just as easily as religious people. The blood that irrigates the desert of Iraq comes from atheists as well as religious people. Besides, I dont think they even dig "fox holes" anymore. Now they just use Hummers and tanks.

My nephew was a Foxhole Atheist for 12 years, Sgt in the U.S. Army. He was deployed to three combat zones and never once faltered. His medals for valor speak for themselves.

He does chuckle about the Christian soldiers wetting their pants and staying in the foxholes as he and the other few atheists went out and did the actual fighting.

The Army tried to force feed him Christianity every day, which is why he eventually left.

EDIT: I LOVE the thumbs down for stating the facts.

63 year old atheist here. No foxholes for me. Pointer in a six inch mount. Was an atheist then and am still one today. Got one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel.

My brother became agnostic in a fox hole.

He went from Christian to agnostic.

I've never begged god(s) for anything.

If they are smart they will avoid going there in the first place .
If they are forced to end up there may they have the composure to die without panic or straw grasping.

Probably not, the same way as people being tortured aren't too concerned with making sure they don't supply information to the torturees.

Straw man argument

This is really just a wish on the part of the religious, because it's not based in fact.

Do a search on MAAF(The Military Association of Atheists and Freethinkers)
