I have been seeing blood drops near our male cats litter box and basically anywhere he sits for any length of time. It's new (within the last two weeks or so) and he doesn't seem to be in any pain. ie. meowing and such. Could it be a urinary tract infection? He's just over a year old and basically an indoor cat. (unless he escapes out the front door on an occasion) He's had new food for the past month or so. Could it be that simple?

Our cat is neutered. Any idea of how on earth to get a urine sample from him?

It's most likely a urinary tract infection, but it could be stones,or crystals, which can cause an obstruction, which can be fatal. You should definitely take the cat to the vet.To get a urine sample, watch to see when your cat goes to the litterbox, then when he starts to urinate, catch the urine in a clean saucer or some other container.transfer to a clean jar and take the urine with you to the vet.If you can't get any urine, your vet should be able to get a sample with a needle through the abdomen or with a catheter ( my cats have had this done and it really doesn't seem to bother them too much) You'll need to out your cat on a urinary diet, more canned than dry,and try to get him to drink more water. Good luck.

Get him to the vet right away. He may be passing urine crystals and tearing things up. If you can get a urine sample before you take him that will help them treat him. But don't delay, cats don't show pain very easily. My cat had a very bad infection and the only way I figured it out is she was going to the bathroom a lot but not very much, she never made a noise. The vet said it was one of the worse infections they had seen.

Sounds like your cat has a urinary tract infection or may have kidney stones that he is passing. You need to get him to the vets as he may need to have some medication in order to become healthy.

I hope that your cat feels better soon.

Is he neutered? If not I think this is it. It is painful for them when they are not many times.
