I heard that most cures are suppressed because once a cure is found, Then all the money is gone because they don't get the research funding any more. And that was 15 years ago.

I am a cancer patient and know that companies are working hard on treatments and cures, and nobody is deliberately stopping these treatments from being developed.
Testing these drugs is being slowed a lot down by lack of funding. Drugs partly tested and not yet approved cannot be offered to patients unless they meet the criteria for the clinical trials. What is that main criteria? You have to have one foot in the grave so they will not spend too much time and money waiting for you to die. A survival benefit is measured by how long you live after treatment vs. the control group that did not get the drug.
The main problem is that the US government is not doing enough to fund and subsidize testing. With a Trillion dollars spent in the Iraq war so far, it does not leave any money to subsidize cancer research here in the USA. Companies are struggling to come up the money to test new drugs and that is slowing the testing down a lot. Testing at an earlier stage with longer survival monitoring takes a lot of money, and companies can’t afford it without government help. Cutting edge Gene therapy research has no help from the US government either.
Another major issue is religion. Cutting edge research using stem cells is being squelched by the religious groups that do not believe in this.
Profits are high stakes for treatments that may someday lead to a cure. Look at Dendrion. The stock was at 4. When the preliminary FDA meeting said the immune therapy treatment they tested was safe and recommended for approval, the stock went up to 28 the next day (at which point I sold my shares). When final approval was denied pending more testing, the stock dropped to 7. Unfortunately, because of this denial, I will not have access to that treatment now until after 2 more years of testing, and then it may be too late for me. Immune therapy can ultimately be the standard for cancer prevention when it is perfected. Companies will make big profits off this treatment and possible cure. Companies will not make that profit if approval is delayed or denied.

I wouldnt be surprised if I found it were true, but no I dont believe they are holding back cures.
For one thing, they are treating cancer patients everyday with treatments that ARE possible cures. I just went through a stem cell transplant which is a possible cure for leukemias and lymphomas (as well as a host of other auto immune noncacerous diseases).
For two, the ppl who knew about the treatment would use it to treat their friends and family. After so long it would get out. It is just impossible to hide something of that nature.
Other conspiracies I believe. This one I dont

No. This is asked on this forum all the time. This is actually considered one of the top ten cancer myths. There is no factual basis for anyone to believe this and yet it persists. In order to believe this you would need to believe that every single pharmaceutical company all over the world agrees to keep this a big secret . . at the cost of their own life or those of their families when they develop cancer. Don't you think that company employees can get cancer or their families . . don't you think the press would all be over a story of this magnitude. Don't you think it strange that there are no legitimate news stories with investigative reporters trying to find out if the pharmacy companies have the big secret. There is no way that this would be kept secret for any amount of time. And, no reason to keep such a secret. Businesses come and go all the time . . and make way for something new . . same with drugs and medicine . . companies come and go. If a cure for cancer occured than something else would open up for these companies . . they would adapt . . or divesify . . just like any other company would do.

Impossible!
This is something the whiners say so often, they believe it.
Look around!~ How many people do you know who HAD cancer and are doing fine right now?? Somewhere., a cure had to be invented which helped them.
Somebody invented the colonoscope, which helped a surgeon find a bunch of polyps inside of me! Yes, this is prevention, but it sure beats needing a cure.

No there's no conspiracy to hide or prevent a cancer cure in order to maximise profits. The conspiracy theory is an urban myth, a sort of game played by those who have not had cancer or close experience of it.
Think about it, if there were such a conspiracy:
*whoever discovered the cure would be keeping quiet, even though it would bring them fame and fortune. Any drug company discovering a cure would make more money than they can have dreamed of making up till now.
*every medical professional in the whole world would have agreed to keep the cure secret. Every single one. One blabbermouth, one disgruntled researcher or sacked nurse and the whole conspiracy’s blown.
*the thousands of people who would have to have been cured by it in order to prove it worked would be keeping quiet about it too. Newspapers and other media wouldn't have got a sniff of it.
*doctors, scientist, researchers etc would be watching their relatives die and dying themselves (they and their families develop cancer at the same rate as the rest of the population) even though they knew of a cure

There is much research going on in all types of cancer to try and find a cures- dedicated hard work by those same people who some suggest are conspiring to hide a cure.
Cancer is hundreds of diseases, not just one. The difficulty is that different cancers are caused by different things, so no one strategy can prevent them, and different cancers respond to different treatments so no one treatment can cure them all
Some cancers can be cured these days though. Cancer Research UK says that 7 out of 10 children are cured of cancer. Testicular cancer, Hodgkin's disease, and many cases of leukaemia can all be cured in adults with chemotherapy, most skin cancers are cured with surgery, and many cases of thyroid cancer and cancer of the larynx are cured with radiotherapy.
Many other types of cancer are also cured if they are found early enough - 75% of breast cancers that are found very early - at stage one - for example. There is still a long way to go, especially with some of the commonest types of cancer such as lung, breast, bowel and prostate cancer.
Many people – invariably those who have not had cancer or been close to it - have pet theories about what causes and prevents it, and how to treat it. Existing treatments - chemotherapy and radiotherapy - are not perfect, far from it, but we know, because they have been clinically tested and proven, that they save some lives and extend many others.

No, if anything a cure for cancer should be shouted from every rooftop since that would generate more profit than hiding it. Think about how many people would line up to pay thousands of dollars for the cure for cancer.

i don't think the cure for cancer is suppressed because who ever comes up with that cure will be wealthy beyond imagination and go down in history as a great person. however i do believe the FDA drags out testing on other drugs as a way to ensure profit. many drugs are available in europe and canada and not available in the USA. i don't believe those govts. are giving the go ahead to drugs not thoroughly tested.
