The most dangerous dogs are the ones that have the most ignorant owners.
The most protective dog is the dog standing between you and a gun toting robber.
The most fierce dog is the dog barking at the person knocking on the door when you're not expecting anyone.

I don't think there is such a list in reality. The dog that I personally know as the most vicious is my mother's Maltese. That dog has bitten dozens of people. Thankfully the dog weighs about 7 pounds and has very small teeth so he has never caused any real damage. People create truly dangerous dogs. Sure larger body types and other physical features cause some breeds to be a bit more dangerous than others. But breeding for aggression and then teaching the dog to be overly aggressive is what causes a dangerous dog.

While the word Dangerous may be going a little too far, some dogs are easier to get along with than others. What one person refers to as dangerous may not be dangerous to another. I am a true dog lover, however, I will go out on a limb and say this IMHO: there are dogs who are typically more aggressive than others --from my daily observations at the dog park I see fights occurring most often with the following dogs: huskies, German shepherds, dobies, APBTs (sorry), chows, boxers (I know, I know) and in general dogs whose owners do not seem to care about their behavior or socialization. Very small dogs are also prone to snapping and fear biting as are some old dogs as well as rescue dogs coming from an abusive background. And sometimes even sweet natured Aussies and Border Collies get on other dogs nerves because of their ceaseless herding. Don't get mad; I'm just relating what I've seen at the dog park. Just this evening there were five dog fights, two between huskies vs. huskies and three between German Shepherds against their own kind. One ended with the owners very close to fist fighting. Seems to me the dogs just need a little more training and socialization --so I blame it on the owners.

Golly where are some of these people getting their information. All you have to do is contact AKC and they have statistics on how many bites (attacks) per breed and quality like 1 bite for every 100 dogs so on and so forth. Sometimes a breed is not very large so maybe not as many bites shows up, last I checked it was the German Shepperd which I have owned and he was a sweetheart and I have also owned a few Rottweilers which were socialized and they all loved people (by the way also the smartest breed I have ever owned). I have never been around a chow. My neighbors have Akita's and I wouldn't want to be alone with them. Many years ago I was bitten by a Collie and later by a St. Bernard. I kinda wonder about some of those Mastiffs.

I am a huge animal/dog lover. and I do agree with what everyone says about how a dog is raised or trained.
The lists above can be pulled from the web of top 10 most dangerous dogs. There is a difference between most likely to BITE and most likely to do HARM.
I have a pit mix and I LOVE her, but I will promise you that the day she decides to really bite someone it is over! She is so strongg for a medium sized dog!!! We in no way encourage the aggressive side in her, but just to watch her destroy a beef femur that my boxer can chew on for days, she kills in a few bites...
VERY scary to think what people are raising these incredible beautiful and stron dogs to do.
As far as psycho... beagles have a common inbred disorder where they actually go crazy.... but a beagle, like a cocker or chihuahua cannot do a huge amount of damage....
Simple question but interesting topic!

Most dangerous breed is humans - for making their dogs vicious either on purpose or through stupidity.
The most bites are from chihuahuas and dogs of that size, cocker spaniels haven't got much patience with kids who bug them and have a record of biting - none of which means the breeds are vicious, just that people often think it's cute when their little 4 lbs. chihuahua acts like a demon and they tolerate, even encourage their small dogs to be "protective" - which means unsocialized with people and other dogs usually.
All dogs need patient, responsible owners to train them to be good pets.
You can't overlook a little dog's manners anymore than you can a pitbulls - your dog needs to be brought up properly to be a good canine companion.

The most dangerous dog in the world is one owned by a bad owner.
A lot of people have posted the top 10 from some petsdo.com site. It's total nonsense. Case in point. They list Siberian huskies on the top ten, then mention attack by "husky type" dogs. WTF does that mean? Something that we have absolutely no idea what ii is, but it kinda looks like a husky, so we'll put huskies in the list. and that kind of sloppiness is rampant in lists like this. Anyone that believes huskies are aggressive simply doesn't know the breed, and probably not much about dogs in general.
I wonder who makes these things up. Mostly, they are based on crappy data, sloppily interpreted. And where are mixed breeds on this? If they were included, I wouldn't be surprised to see them right near the top.
Some of this list comes from some data compiled by the Centers for Disease Control. But if you read their own words, so will see that they do not recommend policy based upon breed.
"A CDC study on fatal dog bites lists the breeds involved in fatal attacks over 20 years (Breeds of dogs involved in fatal human attacks in the United States between 1979 and 1998). It does not identify specific breeds that are most likely to bite or kill, and thus is not appropriate for policy-making decisions related to the topic. Each year, 4.7 million Americans are bitten by dogs. These bites result in approximately 16 fatalities; about 0.0002 percent of the total number of people bitten. These relatively few fatalities offer the only available information about breeds involved in dog bites. There is currently no accurate way to identify the number of dogs of a particular breed, and consequently no measure to determine which breeds are more likely to bite or kill.
Many practical alternatives to breed-specific policies exist and hold promise for preventing dog bites. For prevention ideas and model policies for control of dangerous dogs, please see the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Task Force on Canine Aggression and Human-Canine Interactions: A community approach to dog bite prevention."
And even if you had a truly accurate list of the ten most likely to bite breeds, you have to put it in perspective: You're much more likely to be killed on injured in a fall down the stairs than to be injured by a dog. Of from an accident while riding a bicycle. Or in a car.

the only dangerous dogs are the ones that are neglected and abused usually... it depends how the owner treats it... if a pit bull is taught to fight then obviously it will be aggressive... but they can be the sweetest dogs... people just give them bad names... like the rott and the doberman... just raise them right... the most protective i would say the German shepherd, rott, & doberman

Any dog that is trained or forced into a situation to be that way...will.
It has absolutely nothing to do with breed, although I see many people went ahead and posted lists of breeds. Dogs are animals, domesticated, but still animals. Given the right circumstances....ANY animal can attack.
