I know that if I want an actual fatwa I should go to an Imam, but do YOU think its halal to have avatars as we are not allowed to make images and Allah will tell us to try to breathe life into any images we make on the Day of Judgement??

If the Prophet (pbuh) was depicted that's not halal so why should we make images? That's tantamount to saying that some Muslims have drank alcohol so we should be allowed to as well.

How is it insane. Thou shalt not make any graven images. I know that the majority of Christians forget that one.

Infidels? That's original.

I am not a brother. I am a sister. Imams cannot issue a fatwa? Umm..yes they can. They can interpret Sharia better than the average person if their area of expertise is tapped. Sticking to the rulings of Islam is not something to be ashamed of.

This day have I perfected your religion for you, completed My favor upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion.” (5:3)

That means that we are not to change explicit rulings of the Quran and Sunnah.

woodennickel2007, no images of anything with a soul is allowed. That's why most Islamic art and architecture is simply plants.

The supposed prophet Mohammed was featured in many pictures in older Islamic art. Why the problem these days?

The instructions for not making images were to make sure that Muslims do not involve in making pictures of Prophet and then statues of Prophet and then start worshipping stautes of Prophet Mohammad instead worshipping Allah.

Today scholars of Islam have allowed to have photograph taken where it is necessary like photo on Driving License, Identification Card and Passports. With out these three important documents with us our life will become extremely difficult in todays world.

We must always know and remember the reason for which a rule or a prohibition was made. If we never do what Prophet was afraid of (worshipping his picture or his statue) then it should be all right to have picture taken for other reasons.
Most scholars now agree on permission of having photo made for the above necessities.

Imams cannot issue a fatwa.

Come up to the 'now'... clear the dust from your eyes and your mind. We learned to make boats. Does that mean we defy Allah's will when a flood comes?

Your way of thinking and innovating gives the rest of us a bad name.

the problem w/ pictures is when people think that they can actually create people, but as long as you thank allah, it is no problem. and that goes for anything we must thank allah for everything
