i want to be a photogrpaher of live music and band shots.
what courses should i take in highschool?
the highschool i am attending does not offer photography courses.

In addition to typical photography courses (at your high school, community college, etc.) consider classes on...
-art: including composition, color theory, fundimentals, etc.
-computer studies including photoshop
-Journalism or photojournalism
-photography (at your local community college or university)
-If you plan to have your own business then business courses
-See if you can work or volunteer for a local photographer for these kinds of events. Chances are the events will occur at night so make sure it's ok with your parents. Also if the events are 21 and over, make sure you can still enter the venue.
Additionally read up and look at what others in this niche are doing. Also get to know all the guys who have bands or are forming bands as they will most likely become your first clients.
Also pick up books on basic photographic techniques. Learn to become adept at shooting manually. Also save money because lenses will be what will break your bank!

Then - get out there and shoot as much as possible. If you can get to a concert and convince the security that you are doing a project at school ... you never know how helpful some people can be. Talk to the performers! Be Bold!

You are NOT going to make a lotta $$$ as a "photographer." It's even hard finding a real job as one. So I suggest something else as a career.
