Now I have two cats, we found her brother and let me tell you they are double teaming me! I mean the boy let me touch her a little but they both hiss. I was thinking I should go in the room and read a book in there and just sit in there away from them, what do you all think?

This poor cat is probably terrified of you and other people. She hisses cause she's scared that you are going to harm her. Give the cat some space for a couple days and slowly let the cat get used to you. Do not try to pet the cat for a while but stay in the same room when you feed her and let her get used to that. It make take hours but this works. Just being around her for a couple weeks or so will get her much more comfortable. Then when she's hungry call for her and wait till she comes to you. When she's is ready and meowing for it, try just touching her back by the tail. If she raises her tail up or arches her back then she liked that. Don't try petting her head for a while. Just the back and tail. Eventually (days later probably) she will rub against your legs and then she is quite comfortable around you. Don't speak too loudly but cats like high-pitched talking and don't move to suddenly around her. And remember - be patient! She is adjusting to a new world and it may take weeks! Good luck!

She is probably scared of new faces and new surroundings. And some cats are naturally aloof, and not the cuddly kind. Just see that she has plenty of water and good quality cat food. Give her a few toys to play with and a comfy bed to sleep in. Give her some time, and she'll probably get used to you. Be patient, and she may come around in time. My cat is very leery of strangers and hisses at them. Cats are also territorial, and don't take to people readily. Try ignoring her hisses. Once she gets used to the idea that you're the one she depends on for food, etc., she may become less aggressive in time. Good luck!

I found a stray and she did a lot of hissing at me. Just give the cat space. Feed it and do not force attention on the cat. Cats do not like change. It will take her time to adjust. My kitten is very sweet and loving. She still growls at me when she is upset but never does hurts me. She is all show.

Dear new cat owner, welcome to felinus world. Is this your first cat? If your cat has already reached adulthood he/she needs time and lots of patience to adjust to the new home and to you. The creature is still trying to make sense of his/her new world by taking a defensive posture. Do not feel rejected; think how the poor creature might feel.

If what you have is still a kitty, (you mentioned little. Was it taken from the mother?) probably the animal has not had any human touch yet.

In either case, your way to your pet's heart is through his/her stomach. Slowly and quietly approach the cat while feeding and try to pad him/her once or twice, if and when it lets you. After achieving this goal, wait for the cat to approach the plate while you wait by it. Try petting again. Get a toy mouse/rat/butterfly a string or something to play with him/her.

It is a matter of adjustment and getting to know your movements/behavior. Be patient with each other. Did I make it sound to easy? Please, let me know.

A catslave.

This cat is probably feral and may never be comfortable around people. You should have her vet checked right away because she probably has been exposed to disease and parasites which you don't want. If you are determined to keep her give her a room of her own and a place where she can hide until she feels safe enough to come out of her hidey hole with only you in the room and the door shut. This may take months. If it is not worth it to you (and I wouldn't blame you) then take her to a shelter.

Yes, the cat is not used to people. How long have you had the cat? Just keep talking gently to her, see if you can give her treats out of your hand and talk gently to her. If she won't take a treat out of your hand, put it in a dish near you. Always let her see that you are feeding her. Get some string, pull it around the floor and let her chase it. Playing with her and feeding her are the best ways to build trust with a cat. I would give it a couple weeks and see if she improves, otherwise I would just take her to an animal shelter. Perhaps a cat whisperer can help her there.

This cat is so scared. It probably has had to defend itself/and had bad experiences with humans.

Please, if you can, let her be and give her water, food, etc.

I got a cat, that is what you described, a year ago. I always talked to her, put her food and water under the bed as well as the litter box.

It took months for her to come out.

But, now she is coming around and we can pet her. She no longer has that wild look in her eyes.

It takes much patience on your side, but just give her time and more time and more time.

give her time, if shes not used to people obviously she needs time to adjust, i found a kitten in a gas station before and she wanted nothing to do with anyone and hissed and growled all the time, but with some love, attention, and time she turned out to be the sweetest cat.
so im sure your cat will come around sooner or later. just dont give up on her.

Try creating an environment that she feels safe in. You could try making a bed in a little box and then just leave her with fresh food, water and a litter box. If you try to force her to like you she'll retreat even more. Just spend a little time with her a few times a day and have her associate you with food and love. Don't pet her unless she comes to you. Once she learns to trust you she'll be your best friend.

The cat is probley just scared of you, or he could have been alittle wild. When cats are stray they usually get wild. But give him time to warm up to you. Ive had 2 strays, that were completely mean, i took them in, and after a month they were just as sweet as any pet cat.
