Could the metaphorical significance in Lancelot's appearing the eve before Easter, be that on Easter Christ arose and Lancelot sees himself as some sort of Deity, with which needed to be reckoned. His appearance on a Holy Day would have involved a crowd of very important people. He always liked an audience.
