Almost thought I would - Take my dogs or forget me. I told him to be around my dogs and try to bond with them and then make a judgment (he had NEVER owned a pet of any kind). He did and several years later there he is with his arms around my dogs Rottweilers at that. My daughter gave her husband to be (2 weeks before big wedding) her and her dog or no wedding (she even moved back home). Now I didn't think this was the best thing to do and offered to take her dog. She stuck to her guns and they got married (with dog). To make a long story short they owned that dog for almost 12 years and guess who grieved the most when the dog was buried ( you guessed it, the husband) the dog chose him to become really attached too.

With a friend yes, not with a boyfriend, because my only serious relationship ever is now my husband, and he pampers my pooches. But I did tell a friend to hit the road, when he said I care more about my dogs then humans, and ceremoniously threw my dog off my couch. Like I told him my dogs are more honest.

Not JUST because of that.... but it was a deciding factor. Not as you would think that I ended it because of a CURRENT pet, but because of what he had done to his previous pets and his X-wife's pets.

I LOVE animals and rescue them, he knows this. I found out he had once taken a puppy out and shot it because it "would not house train in a few weeks", also he hated his X-wife's cats, so he disposed of them when she was at work one day. Also his dog ran away one night, when it got home he beat it, when it yelped he looked closer and realized it was bloody and injured because it had been hit by a car....

I think that someone that can be cruel to animals has deep character issues. Therefore it made me not trust him.....

No, but I stayed in a relationship for my dog. She was bought when I was living with my ex, and when I finally couldn't stand it anymore, and we broke up, he took her, like I knew he would.

I should have broken it sooner because it only took a huge emotional toll on me and my puppy too (apparently she was super depressed...). I miss her every day though *sigh*.

Yes when he said I should feed my dog hot peppers, gun powder and hot sauce to make him mean and keep him out in the garage in the dead of a Chicago winter!

Yes I have because I found out that he hit my dogs, when I am not around .
I found it out because they changed their behavior and he also confessed it (but i bet he lies because he said he only did it once, because my doggies jumped on the couch ).
