I have four pie pumpkins, two I bought in the beginning of October and two I bought right after Halloween. I have a very busy schedule and Ive been meaning to make pumpkin pie, but Im worried the pumpkins will go bad! Will the pumpkins go bad after this long? DO you think they are bad by now? How can I tell when they go bad before opening them?

What I recommend is setting just a little time aside to cut them open, remove the seeds and fiber (you'll then see if they are still good), put them in a sheetcake pan in chunks and bake them until they are soft. Once they have cooled, peel them, mash them, and put them in zip lock bags in portions called for in your pie. Stick those bags in the freezer and you can bring them out when you are ready to make your pies without losing the pumpkins.

Hope that helps. Doesn't take as long as the whole process from raw pumpkin to the pie.

As far as testing it from the outside, soft spots are a clue you've lost it or at least a part of it.
