"Uncooked eggs can be satisfactorily stored in the shell for four to five weeks after they are packaged (so generally at least three weeks after you get them home from the store.) Hard-boiled eggs, however, should be consumed within a week. Why the difference?" http://www.ochef.com/1009.htm

The hard boiled egg stays fresh about a week. After that it gets a film between the egg and shell (the breakdown of the membrane) that makes the sulfur smell really get bad.

When the egg is raw, if you turn your egg carton over every few days, the yolk stays in the center and will last a long time. And I mean a LOOOOONG time. As long as the temperature of the egg is cold, it will last for a good month or longer. If the temperature gets up to 70, the egg, if fertilized, will start to grow the chick and then die because it's not at incubator temperature - and then rot.
