so that ordaments don't tip over and break and water doesn't spill, also so that it stands up and doesn't fall over.

Get a real good tree stand. Don't know that I've ever had a cat climb in a xmas tree, the branches are to compact. I'd still get a good tree stand, i.e. one of those cast iron ones that weight about 20 lbs. That's what I have.

Use ordaments that wont break if they hit the ground and tie the tree up it at all possible. There really isn't anything you can do!

Start with a very small tree, next year a bigger one, or an artificial tree and only unbreakable ornaments.

Also, if it falls down make sure nothing of value is in it's way.

Tie it to the wall! Seriously. We still have an eye hook in our wall from when we had a cat who liked to climb trees. We'd put fishing line around the tree so you couldn't see it!

we have like 7 cats... this works

put the tree as high as you can and avoid puttng anything that DANGLES on the tree.. lights ok, streamers ok, oraments ok as long as they dont dangle, and it would be best if you didnt get a real tree made of wood ...or theyll be after it for good.
