By this I mean you pour your heart and head into a project and afterwards are mentally and/or emotionally drained. But the urge to paint is still there. So, to creatively unwind do you ever do a little less serious art just to keep the flow going? Like paint just for the fun of painting?

If so, do you still take pride in your ‘dummy downed’ efforts, your silly fun stuff?

Want to guess which one of these I had to unwind after doing?

(And as always you can click or double click on the images to enlarge them.)

Personally, I kinda like doing the fun stuff.

I'll take a guess--I think you wound down after the second piece. When I've done work for commissions, there's always been just a bit of stress. But, I don't think that what I do after is any less "serious" in that it requires inspiration, ups & downs, & emotional dedication. The difference is that I'm FREE of meeting someone's expectations.which I've always tried to do--a good way to get collectors! Just wondering--have you ever read THE HORSE'S MOUTH? It's quite a delight! A very independent spirit, (& a bit of a con, too)!

I don't have that distinction between serious and fun when it comes to art. I understand what you mean but I have about 3 or 4 paintings I work on at a time. If the energy is still going I can always pick up on an other painting.

I would guess the first set took a lot more out of you. I'm not an artist (took a few classes in college - drawing graphics, etc.) I do have a close friend who is a serious ceramic artist. She was one of the people who pioneered this paper clay thing. The energy is amazing. I'd love to see more of your drawings. And we should have a new category here "Ship of Fools".

Art is an escape for me so when I get tired I stop, sometimes putting it away for weeks or months. Art is always fun and exciting, when this becomes really stressfull I just put it up.

My art is poetry. After serious hard work, I sleep.
