The pope has a couple hundred million followers to answer to. No secular leader has that much influence or money flowing in.

You could write a book or at least a very long paper on this. In my opinion, even though the Pope has diplomatic relationships with world leaders, his position represents the Church and is not apt to change and be politically motivated as is a secular leader. Secular leaders use religion for political purposes when handy but the Pope has no need or desire to shift church positions.

The Pope brings the Roman Catholic Churchs teachings and positions to the world.

An aside to the question at hand, how I wish some religions who have suicide bombing funamentalists would have a touchstone leader such as the Pope. The beautiful peaceful Muslim/ Islamic cultures have allowed their fringes to bring horrors at home and abroad.

A secular leader governs a certain population of people in some part of the world.

The Pope is the senior pastor of 1.1 billion Catholics, the direct successor of Simon Peter. His main roles include teaching, sanctifying, and governing.

The Pope also endeavors to protect the human dignity of all human beings including their right to religious freedom.

With love in Christ.

His first responsibility is spiritual. While some secular leaders pray in public (for sincere or other reasons), praying, preaching and inspiring people in their faith is the Pope's central task. If anything, he is more like the CEO of a large multinational corporation, with concerns for "value" and even "image" - which I don't intend in any negative way. He has a message to "sell," both within and outside his faith community. He is also technically the secular leader of a one-mile-square nation (Vatican City), but that is one responsibility he (probably gladly) delegates to others.

The Pope's responsibilities are to the faithful (in this case Catholics), to lead the church, to teach and instruct. His responsibility is to the salvation of the followers of the Catholic church. A secular leader is responsible for running government, ie., the rule of law, keeping citizens physically safe, etc. But a secular leader is not supposed to interfere with one's religious belief.

there are more then a few responsibilities the Pope has, among them to make sure that we won't fall away from the Path that leads to God, even though, these will only apply to those that are willing to listen, and specially to keep the faith, regardless of what the devilish people or ignorants may pretend to "know" abut the Catholic faith. and the secular leader depends in what category falls, his personal responsibility is to follow his vocation.

A secular leader is not considered to be infallible, and does not have the responsibility of telling other people what they have to believe.

The Pope talks to God. Secular leaders talk to their self.

He is the spiritual leader for millions of Catholics (including myself). Ppl believe in papal infallibility (including myself) which states that anything the Pope dictates is set-in-stone for truth. After all, he is Jesus' human representative on Earth. And he would never say something (contemporarily) like the world is flat. Overall, he commands a vast array of Catholics and provides them with spiritual guidance (he also does sermons around the world which help in making him seem more personable). I hope my info helped :)
