I was hired at $8/hour to be a part time cashier. I am a 33 year old stay at home Mom who wants a little extra money. I have my MBA and ten years management experience. I was interviewed by the store manager (who is no longer there) and was clear that I only wanted to be a cashier. Over the past few months, they have turned me into the evening cashier. I've gone from my 15-22 hour work week to an average of 30. I have managers keys, and all the responsibilties of a supervisor. I spoke with a new manager last night and he told me they informed him I was a supervisor. Noone has spoken to me about this transition.

The plan:
1. Ask for a raise to $12 an hour.
2. If they say no, I will explain that I accepted $8 as a cashier and from this point forward that is all I will do.
3. If they give me grief about that, I plan to turn in my two week notice.

Do you think I'm right? Am I doing the right thing? Any suggestions would be appreciated....

I think you are absolutely right. I realize you accepted the 8 dollars as a cashier. But that was to be a cashier only. U deserve what you are working for. If you are operating as a manager then you should be paid as one.
Businesses try to get over all the time. Its not gonna hurt them to pay u 12 dollars an hour and they have someone with your experience. So what u agreed to 8 we all agree to a starting amount no one looks to stay there. Yours just came quicker thats all.

I would request a meeting with the manager and district supervisor. Have all of your notes in front of you (we all know how nervous we become in these situations). Ask them to please explain exactly what your position is w/this company. Mention how flattered you are w/the confidence the company has found in you. However, you wish to be compensated for the actual type/title of work that the company expects from you. If they do not meet your request and ANSWER your questions honestly then perhaps it is time to move on. Do you really what the responsability? Do you really want the extra hours? Is it worth the termoil that you are going thru for $8 hour? Are you losing benefits by not actually holding the title as Asst. Manager?

You are 33 and have an MBA and all you want is an $8/cashier job? You need to set your sights a little higher. If they won;t give you the $15/hour, take a hike. You can do better elsewhere.

Your plans sounds good to me. I wouldn't go thr all the phases of the three. I would just say there has been a mistake along the way and I want the pay that a supervisor would get and when will the interview take place?

Ur right and If they can't give u more than the cashier job pays .. put in a 2 weeks notice. Let them know u have been offered a position that pays more. U dont have to tell them how much cuz its none of their business.

Well almost sit down with them and ask don't demand a raise.
Since you get 8.00 an hour you could be lucky to get that. But anyway explain to them that your hours have increased and
that you would like more money. After all they have increased our work load. And expect you to do what ever they want.

I would ask for 10.00 and then tell them ou have been offered
more money at a different location [white lies don't count]
Good luck

I think that your plan will work especially since you only recieve the pay of a cashier. It is wrong of the manager to do that so make sure that you get your way.

Ask for all 3. If there is any other person doing the same duties, ask for the pay they get. I was promoted and then dropped from it for seniority reasons but still expected to do all the things I did before. I just told my boss, "I am not getting paid for this, but I will do what I am getting paid for."...It worked in my case.

honestly $12 isn't enough, but no you're not wrong, don't let this company take advantage of you. You made it clear in the beginning what you wanted even though you are far more qualified and they should respect that and give you more money if they want to give you more responsibilities
