Would it be totally shallow for someone to dump you because you had a car accident and you came out disfigured? Find out why the person is gaining weight. Are they depressed? Do they have an undiagnosed medical problem? Maybe they just don't care and don't have any personal respect. It is your call. Mmm

If it was purely because they gained some weight, then yes, i do. However often when people gain weight they change in more than appearance. Often people gain weight because they are depressed or have other emotional or mental issues. gaining weight can also make a person more moody, agressive, and focus less on personal hygine, not to mention being lmore lazy. All of these effects of weight gain are negative.
However if it was simply because they got a little tummy, its a really shallow thing to do

It's absolutely absurd. I would never do something crappy like that. If someone gains like 10 lbs. it would be okay to mention that there's a difference, and then ask if everything is okay in their life. If someone gains like 20 or 30 lbs (which would take a long time to do, so there would definitely be an underlying cause for the break-up there) then it's a more serious issue. But no one should ever break up with someone because they gained weight.

That is pathetic. The person in question has the depth of a bird bath!

In this case the gaining weight would then actually be an extremely positive thing for the person stuck with the idiot.

'This would be a person who would take their brand new car to the junk yard because it got a small dent in it. What that person is not looking for is the value of what's inside. It's like the ugly duckling story. So the wrapper is torn, it can be taped, glued, stapled or whatever. The outside in not important, it's the gift inside that "should" matter the most.
Only thinking of themselves will get them no friends they will need as their life goes on. "Good Question"
God Bless and take care.

Yes. But, part of being with a person is the physical attraction. So if someone dumps you because you gained weight, and he/she just isn't attracted to you anymore, than you can't really blame them, can you?

Of course it's shallow! But, if it really bothers you, then you need to rightfully move on and find a perfect-in-every-way, yet equally shallow, person to have a relationship with and pray to God that nothing physical changes in you, or you'll be history too!

Reading most of the answers is making me laugh. Bottom line, if someones weight gain bothers you, dump them. Be nice about it, but if you are not attracted to over weight people, why would you stay with one?
