Where are you? Did you order it online? If you are in a different state that charges tax and CompUSA does business in that state, they are required to collect those sales taxes.
For instance, I am in California, Comp USA does business here, if I ordered something online from their NH store, they would have to charge me California Sales tax and collect it, even though the merchandise came from NH. Hope this helps. It would be easier to answer if you gave more specifics.

If you ordered a store pick up meaning that you would walk into the store and pick it up then there should have been no sales tax.
I live in NH and we only pay sales tax on prepared food. There is nothing that I can think of that you would buy from compUSA that you should have been charged sales tax on.
Why didn't you just ask the sales clerk what the extra $1.75 was for?

It depends on where you live.
Even if there is no state sales tax, there may be city and/or county sales taxes.
Some states have entered into tax collection agreements,so people have to pay sales tax to both states.
A visit to a local state revenue office can answer any questions you may have.
You might be interested to know that states do not have the authority to tax in another state,it amounts to regulating interstate commerce and states cannot do that and congress cannot legally or constitutionally authorize that to states.
