.....decide that sitting on there rear end posting questions online to people who are just gonna tell them to contact there vet decide to waste here time online instead of helping there pet right away by finding a qualified person to help them handle the situation???

If people "can't afford" to take there pet to the vet than they should not own a pet! How many people are in agreement with me here on this one?

You are so right Goldengal! Thanks to all who tell these people to take there animal to the vet instead of ignoring there questions!!!

And ya, in case you were wondering, I'm one of the ones who's gonna "waste" my dinero on calling my vet at all hours when I think the slightest thing is wrong with my pup just for the peace of mind that will come with the fact that I've contacted a qualified professional. Luckily, I've found a vet with office hours each day of the week as well as an on call vet when the office is closed. People need to shop around for vets. Another question - Why in the world would somebody see a vet who is not available in emergency situations for a who dang millenium?!!!

Meant to say WHOLE dang millenium!!

Because, and most people won't like this answer but it is true, most people are stupid... I am sorry but that is just the way it is -- I am not being cynical but because the less bright people of this world tend to replicate with greater regularity than the bright ones, there is a huge preponderance of not bright people... they have and have learned no common sense and are not actually 'learners' so they likely never will... also they are looking for a cheap answer -- they don't want to own up to the financial responsibility of dog ownership because most people who get dogs really shouldn't even own a goldfish, so when an emergency arises, they hope someone will give them a 'home remedy' for impending deadly situations... Also many vets have just fallen into the pit that human medicine has in that it has started pricing things that insurance will cover and started to 'itemize' things that used to not be itemized so that the can collect more money for their services - not that they should do it for pitence but some of it has become almost as outrageous as human medicine (which I am employed in and just cring when I see how DRGs and insurance companies/hmos etc. have made it a horrific situation -- won't go in depth in that but just suffice it to say that veterinary medicine is going down that dastardly road and there isn't medicare for dogs... well, at least yet!).

I could go on but won't :) Have you seen the movie Idiocracy? It is prophetic...

I do agree with most of the answers here and sometimes wonder if all the questions are for real or if they have nothing to do but sit in front of their computers and entertain their self. On the other hand if they are for real and have a pet and no money (what would happen to all those pets if they were turned into shelters and the pound)? Some people truly love their pet and their pet loves them and they are just trying to do the best they can. I am fortunate that I have a wonderful country vet that I can call anytime.

Good question! some people just need a nudge or for someone even a stranger to tell them what they should do. It's like they have no common sence at all. If you were really sick you would go to a doctor, right?
Some people don't feel that way about their pets at all. They think they can just hold off and if it get really bad then they take them. By that time it is usually much worse than if they took them eariler or just too late.

I don't know why Rosa but at least I'm glad I come here to tell them to go to the vets and then I only hope they listen.

My jaw drops quite often on here when I see the ridiculous things asked. I really like the way Nancy put it...and she's right. We have a lot of not-so-bright people, unfortunately.

What really frustrates me is the "we don't have money for a vet..." yet there they are typing on a computer on the internet. I'm certainly not made of money, but I have made sacrifices when my dog's health required it. I've actually cashed in bonds early, pawned some stuff, charged it to a card, and taken out a loan with my bank. So I really don't like people saying...they just can't afford it. BS...find a way and take care of your pet. (Unfortunately, I'm an elementary teacher, and people actually treat their kids the same way...unless the school intervenes, that child would NEVER see a doctor. Sad, really.)

I agree with you. When I read something like this, it makes me feel sick about these so called pet owners. They shouldn't own pets at all. A lot of them claim that they can't afford to go to the vet. I wonder when their children are sick, what would they do. Having a pet requires proper vet care, regardless of situation. If they are not poor, they are probably way too stupid to take their pet to the vet. Couple days a go, someone post a question about home remedy on Pyometra. I was like "Come on! Take your poor dog to the vet asap!!!". There's no way you can cure it yourself besides the vets. I hope these people will learn their lessons that when their pets don't like themselves, take them to the vet.

I agree with you. How is sitting their on your butts help your dog. Some of these people don't know what they are talking about. Like this person asked what to do with her dog after its leg got hit by a car and didn't want to go to the vet. That is very wrong. Or this person asked if a dog can get heat when it is pregnant and people answered, I hope not because i don't think heat is a very good thing.

ok I'll play the devil's advocate!!! Have you EVER thought that people get on here to find out what may be going on with their animals. For instance, my dogs have never ever had fleas. I searched here for ways that I could get rid of them in my house so that they would not reinfect my animals or a visiting animal. Found lots of good homeopathic suggestions, and actually keep the infestation low in my house until my bug guy got here. And I also found suggestions about things that could actually harm my babies. It wasn't that I was being cheap or stupid, I was trying to LEARN. I have 10 dogs, all rescued, all spayed or neutered, all up to date on shots. If I had a question about something serious I sure in the HELL would call my vet asap. Have you people consider that with your vast amount of knowledge that you could actually help someone out? Maybe send them in a different direction than they had thought about? About the fleas...Do you want to know how we got fleas? People that didn't TREAT their CATS for fleas or alter or vaccinate Let their animals run loose. As they crossed MY YARD they would pee or crap and the fleas would jump off them and into the grass. Then I would let my dogs out into what I thought was a Flea Free yard and bingo !!! We had fleas. So do you know what I did to educate my STUPID neighbors? I let them all know that I had bought a cat trap and if I caught a cat it was going to the humane society. They would be billed for the amount of money that I donated to the H.S. Know what ? For 3 weeks I set that trap. I didn't catch a single one. The neighbors thought it best to keep their cat confined. As soon as the trap was put up...here came the cats again. So out came the trap again. I'll play this game until they learn their lesson. So next time that you bash someone (ignorant or not, Broke or not) either don't answer the question or atleast be pleasant about it. Also I have noticed that vets and vet tech that answer questions here are atleast helpful and they don't bash. Consider what the person on the other side may be feeling, I'm sure they aren't happy that their pet is sick or hurt. help them out a little. Please don't Bash me, after typing this rant I don't think I could take it!!! P.S until tonight I didn't know what dermodex was!!

I agree with you. There is a saying I read on a bumper sticker it went"I may be fat but I can diet, tomorrow you will still be stupid"! Ok, so stupid and broke just dont mix. That is why reputable breeders do not sell puppies to those kinds of people! The BYB's will sell to anyone to make a $! By doing so we end up with over filled shelters....OMG this infuriates me to think of the stupidity!
I had a man come into my shop just the other day and wanted to know what kind of dogs he should buy so he could become a breeder.....I told him a neutered pound puppy! His reply was and what does she look like!!! ROFLMAO still!!!!

I have asked this question myself and got several responses, but here is what i think
1) they really can't afford it and got their dog for free from a 'reputable' breeder or their friend (although how they can pay for computer and internet in that case is beyond me)
2) are not dirt poor but don't want to spend money on pet care because they really want that extra pair of shoes / tv / etc
3) NO IDEA!
4) are in denial and want to hear something like, well if you love your dog enough it will get all better.

I really don't understand how some people can be so stupid I mean really what do they think we'll say? "my dog is bleeding profusely, what do I do?!?" well, you take a needle and thread... NO stupid, to a VET this is why you have a VET. ugh. -Neb
