She used to be good eating three meals a day. But she is so energetic and full of the diggins that she forgets to eat three meals a day. How can I bring the habit for her back to regulary eat. My partner and me have to handfeed her and there still she spits it out like a baby. Whats wrong with her?

I have two dogs an Apricot Toy poodle who is 8 years old.
And the Chihuahua who is my room mates dog.
I give her sometimes treats. She knows where they are. Wondering if she thinks thats what she supposed to eat? Not sure why she is acting funny. She also had hypoclycemia today. So I had to give her some syrup for that. Thats what the breeder and the vet told me to do.

I walk both of my dogs every morning in the park. As long as the weather [ermits. I hope it never snows this year. I could go without. These temperatures are just right ...
Also have a backyard. She has opening doors to go out as she pleases. She runs a lot with my toy poodle. They love each other very much.

hi, first of all chihuahuas are not supid, if they no you will sit and hand feed then they wont feed themselfs, ive been there done that etc. Why is she on science plan, is it for diet or senstivie stomach! I would change the food, science plan have large pieces of food and this could be hard for her to feed. Never leave it down, put her food down in the morning if she doesnt eat it in 30 minutes take it up do this again at lunch time and evening. This way she will learn when food is down she needs to eat it. My chihuahuas like the diet pedigree dried food, also pets at home have free samples of there own brand you could try. If your puppy doesnt eat in the morning , dont worry she will cotton on when her food is there she needs to eat. Feeding her by hand will stop her trying to eat, i did this because my little girl wound'nt eat, she eat it when i had it in my hand but not on the floor, chihuahuas can be lazy, and this is why she is not feeding her self. Try some wet food. But if you wanted to keep her on dried food, cut some boiled chicken up and mix it with the food, she will pick the chicken out, but in time she will clear her bowl.
They need regular dinner times, so try and feed her at the same time eat day. If you are giving her lots of biscuits etc this will put weight on and stop her wanting her food. Use treats in moderation.
Hope this helps, happy to answer any questions if you email me via 360, i have lots of chihuahuas they are lovely little dogs, very cleaver.

I think you should talk to your pediatrician about the sudden change in eating habits but as far as the bathroom problem, you could try giving her a few drops of karo in with some milk to help it move along. This will at least ease that problem until you can straiten out the eating habits. I would say don't fret though, she may just be developing a keener sense for what tastes good. Also, be careful not to over accommodate her pickiness, it could prevent her from wanting to try new foods as she gets older, I would suggest always making sure that she tries every food at least once to give it a chance, but be careful not to introduce more than one or two at a time in case she develops an allergy, then you could easily determine the source.

If shes eating than shes fine. You might be over feeding her and shes just not hungry when you're trying to force food on her. It seems a little much feeding 3 times a Day. call a vet and see how much food a dog of her size should eat. By the way science diet is not a low quality food inspite of what that person said. You call almost any vet and they carry science diet. Highly vet reccomended. I work in a clinic and we stock it, so has all the other clinics i worked for over the years.

I have a six month old male chihuahua. I have done a lot of research on dogs. Never ever leave food for them in their bowl. Then they have the opportunity to decide when their feeding time is. Also, to keep her energy level down you must exercise her at least 45 minutes a day. (walking, playing ball some kind of hi energy activity.) You need to get tough with her. Dont baby her. You are the master. Always remember that. I know they are cute as hell! They are also small but have fully functioning brains. Dont forget that.

Three times a day seems like a bit much.

And hand-feeding her isn't such a bad idea!

If you prefer she eat out of her bowl, try feeding her twice a day. Give her fifteen minutes to eat. When fifteen minutes have passed, pick up the bowl and try again once later in the day.

Continue doing this for the rest of your doggies natural life!

You also might want to look into other brands of dog food. Science Diet is really low quality. Try Innova, Solid Gold and Canidae.

I can see that u love ur doggy, you are feeding her the best. I had a problem with one of my dogs as well. The best is not to make a big fuss about it. Give her her food in the morning and just put it down as usual without making a fuss. If she hasn't eaten it in 15 min take it away and offer it again in the afternoon. Repeat this until she eats her food. My dog use to manipulate me and not eat anything for about 5 days!!! Good luck and be strong.

I would spit the food out too if i was fed Science Diet. That food is not the best. Its loaded with By-products and corn. That food used to be a high quality food years ago but not anymore. Its manufactured in China and was involved in the recall. When you feed that food its like feeding your dog junk food. I would switch to a better food like...
Wellness,
Canidae,
Innova,
Merrick,
Eagle Pack Holistic Select,
Azmira
California Natural

Stay away from...
Eukanuba
Nutro
Iams
Pedigree
Alpo
Friskies
Priority
Ol'roy
and basically any foods bought at Petco, PetSmart, or the Grocery store.

Try food that tastes really good for about a week. Give her an extra treat or something. Take her off that food that your feeding her now. Switch food types every week or so. See which brand of food she likes best.

(If you're worried about the dog gaining wait, then try squeezing in an extra walk or two each day.)

the food is no good. try her on something other than that. As they get older they don't eat no more than twicw a day. Call ur vet and get her a check up. Change of food can be fun for them. Keeping the same thing may her bored to food. Like us humans.

At 5 months she should be on 2 meals a day. Science Diet is boring, try something a little tastier.

If she is hungry she will eat.
