An increasingly common scam - this one is so prevalent right now it is starting to get real media attention. Basically, how it works is that you are sent a check with instructions to send all or a portion of the money back to the sender after you have deposited it. So, you deposit the check and within a few days, the check 'clears' and you withdraw the money. The problem is that after a week or two, the bank discovers that the check is a fake and you need to return the money you withdrew. So, if you sent it or spent it, you are obligated to return the funds to the bank, not the person who sent it to you because you are the one who cashed the check. Bad news!

Do a websearch for 'check cashing fraud" and you will find many the more examples of this.

Definitely a scam and don't follow up on it I mean people sending messages re money to people they hardly know. Sounds like one of those Nigerian scams. Your friend could, just to annoy them, send a message and ask for their address and phone number and say don't worry I am coming over to you and deliver the money in person and see what happens and how they react with this request?? Maybe even report them to the Police.

This smells like a scam, sounds like one of those check cashing scams going around the Internet! Seriously, talk your friend out of being involved in this.
