Your question demands a two-fold answer-

1. In Iraq 3876 as CBROWN stated is correct.

2. "From" Iraq (and Afghanistan) is another story. Pentagon reports casualties "in theater". If your butt is evacuated outta country ASAP, and you die in the air, an allied country or the good ole USA, your number is not counted in the total from the Iraq war. Same goes for Afghanistan. You were not KIA in Iraq, ego, your number doesn't count for the Pentagon.
-FYI: nor do US civilians and/or contractors.

Answer number two is guestimated at around 15,000 but that number remains a mystery according to my source below.

3,876 as of November 22, 2007.
However, that doesn't include all the soldiers who have been evacuated to hospitals around the world, only to eventually die from their battle wounds. Nor does it include deaths of military contractors' personnel, media representatives and others who are "in" Iraq helping with the 'war' effort. Those casualties aren't part of the Pentagon body count.
Then there's the injured and disabled men and women who come home from the 'war' with permanent disabilities that ruin their lives, marriages, careers, and dreams. Those figures aren't included in official Pentagon counts.
Then we can't ignore the estimated 675,000 Iraqis who have sacrificed their lives so that a handful of wealthy elitists, industrialists, oil barons and power brokers can become wealthier and more powerful.
George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Don Rumsfeld and their war-mongering friends all deserve a special oil-soaked, blood-stained corner of Hell where they can rot eternally for this most despicable deception ever perpetrated on the American people - and the world.
Joining them in Hell should also be all 535 members of the most arrogant, contemptible, incompetent, cowardly, corrupt Republican-led Congress in U.S. history that watched as Bush and Cheney ran rip shod over our Constitution - AND - all 535 members of the most arrogant, contemptible, incompetent, cowardly, corrupt Democratic-led Congress in U.S. history that promised to end this vile 'war' if elected, and - to date - have done absolutely nothing to keep that promise to the American people.
MAY GOD DAMN THEM ALL!!!

US Soldiers - 2,767 - This is referring to non-civilian members of the Army and Army reserve organizations, who are titled as "soldiers"

For troops from all services, 3,876 as of right now. Latest fatality was supposedly about five days ago.

3876 as of Nov 22, 2007....not bad considering it's bee almost 5 years and considering that the battle of Iwo Jima killed 7,000 Marines and 30,000 Japanese in 30 days! How soon you forget that the reconstruction of Japanese took 10 years. How soon you forget that the battle of Stalingrad killed some 3-4 MILLION soldiers and civilians both from Germany and Russia, how soon you forget that the reconstruction of Russia and Germany took decades, how soon you forget that in one battle in Korea that Chinese lost 17,000 troops in less than 15 minutes trying to overrun an artillery unit, and reconstruction is still taking place in North Korea, where people starve to feed their war machine!

In today’s Iraq..2007 we have provided;

Over 4.5 million people have clean drinking water and electricity for the first time ever in Iraq. Over 400,000 kids have up to date immunizations. Over 1500 schools have been renovated and ridded of the weapons that were stored there so education can occur. The port of Uhm Qasar was renovated so grain can be off loaded from ships faster. School attendance is up 80% from levels before the war. The country had it's first 2 billion barrel export of oil last August, considering that Iran Imports most of theirs, this is great. The country now receives 2 times the electrical power it did before the war. 100% of the hospitals are open and fully staffed compared to 35% before the war. Elections are taking place in every major city and city councils are in place. Sewer and water lines are installed in every major city. Over 60,000 police are patrolling the streets. Over 100,000 Iraqi civil defense police are securing the country. Over 80,000 Iraqi soldiers are patrolling the streets side by side with US soldiers. Over 400,000 people have telephones for the first time ever. Students are taught field sanitation and hand washing techniques to prevent the spread of germs. Girls are allowed to attend school for the first time ever in Iraq. Text books that don't mention Saddam are in the schools for the first time in 30 years. There is a newly elected government
There are only two provinces in the entire country that have major insurgent problems, Baghdad and Al-Anbar, the rest secured.

you know, no one ever asks the question of how many soldiers have been deployed to iraq/afghanistan and actually come back entirely intact. i know ive been 3 times myself and never been shot or even wounded. i wonder how many more of us there are out there?

Wing shooter08 - most of these answerer's don't have a clue as to what you are talking about. They weren't taught that kind of history since the late 60's. Too bad the very liberal NEA can control the curricula that wipes out a major part of our great historic battles and wars.

I also want to point out the soldiers are surviving with worse injuries than ever before. Having a family member going to Iraq our biggest concern is not his death, but him surviving with injuries that would severely hinder his quality of life and how that would affect him mentally.

I think the real question is why do the left insist on providing us up to the minute information on US casualies, but never ask how many insurgents we've killed?
