Walmart, Target, Costco's they should all have tripods. Also if there are Circuit Cities or bestbuy's near you chances are they would have a better selection. I know that Circuit City carry's Sunpak tripods which while not the BMW's of the tripod world are well built and very capable. Good Luck

Don't waste your money on cheap, department store no-name tripods. The purpose of a tripod is to provide a stable, rigid support for your camera.

Invest in Bogen/Manfrotto or Slik or Velbon or Gitzo or Induro or Giottos. Invest in a good quality ball head or tilt-pan head.

Make sure the tripod is tall enough for you. Most cheap ones only extend to 4' or so. Not very useful if you're 6' tall. If anyone tells you "Well just extend the center column" smile and ignore them. Why? Because it creates what is known as a "moment arm" and your camera and lens will be unstable. Think of a heavy door on stiff hinges. The farther away from the hinges the easier it is to push the door open. The closer you are to the hinges the more difficult it becomes to open the door.

Plan to spend about 10% of what you paid for your camera and lens for a quality tripod and head.

Visit a professional camera store and choose your tripod and head and then buy it from them.

Walmart and Target should both carry tripods, they're pretty common.

if you have a camera store nearby try there first..they will have the best selection...otherwise target, walmart, best buy, costco, kmart, sears..all carry them but they are NOT professional use.
