I bought a new puppy which is supposed to be a chihuahua cross jack russell but after looking at pictures and speaking to a few people i have a feeling she may be a Manchester Terrier! Is there anyway that i could find out for sure what she is? The person i bought her from showed me the father and mother but she doesnt look like any of them, i have a feeling they may have had other dogs but cant be sure
! I fell in love with her anyway so it doesnt matter what she is but i just want to find out for sure! Would a vet be able to tell for sure? Or is there any other way i could find out!?

Sometimes mix breeds don't look like their parents. I just met today a dog that was half Great Pyrenees, which is a big fluffy white dog, and half Rottweiler, which is black with red points. You would think it would have really thick, black and white hair. It had a short, flat coat that was red all over--no black or white anywhere! My cousin has a schnauzer/Jack Russell that looks very much like a Border terrier. Your dog could really be what they said.

A vet probably could give you an idea....maybe not "exactly" but that would be your best bet. You could always post a picture up on here of the puppy (not you please -- that is dangerous) and there could be some dog lovers with knowledge and some at least good guesses. Snap a pic -- put it in photobucket and put a link up.....we'll try to guess -- someone may know for sure :)

Hey, mixed breeds ARE THE BEST!!!! They aren't quirky or freaky.....we had a mutt once -- lived 16 years AND saved our lives......we miss her.

the vet should tell you, we bought a puppy 4 months ago it is crossed with a jack russell and white westie terrier wasnt sure wot it was but vet said it is mainly a jack russell only resemblence to a westie is his white chest.

wait till shes fully grown before being too hasty in worrying , puppys to adult dog can change quite a bit in apperance on the way , they grow all out of proportion and speeds

(bit like teenagers with long arms or long skinny torso's till they even out as an adult )

plus every breed has it variations , Im not going to witter about pedigrees and papers, hybrids as Im sure some will , as you say you fell in love with her and its just your own curiosity , but if youve met the parents then it should be fine .

example .my dog is pedigree and during her puppy months shes looked similar to a couple of breeds on the way , people have commented , oh a boxer , we have boxers ....
and staff........bull terrier ! >(
even g dane at one point !! lol!

shes an American bulldog , its obvious now shes fully grown too .

I think you can get a breed specialist to test , but I dont think the vet would / does , but they would have the best recourses to give you on how to go about it .

definately got jack russell in it, and those big eyes suggest possibly chihuahua.... the ears are not completely flopped over like a jacks so i would say the chances of it being a chixjack are very high

a vet should be able to tell, that is there job, so going there is your best bet. if you want to check elsewhere, than look through google and check out a bunch of different pictures, or go to the library and check out a book on dogs.

OMG!!!! I have a jack-russell Chihuahua mixed, and he is the best, greatest, most wonderful lovable dog ever!!!!! he issss sooooo cute... anyway.... congrats... now... most Jack Rus. are white with brown spots, like wishbone, so if ur dog is white, with spots then he IS a JckRusTer... I havent seen them in anyother colors, and his face will look like the Chihua. My dog is 10 now, he is an old man with grey hair... but he is the sweetest!!! I love him!!! Good luck with urs!

There are some vets that have experience in different breeds but for the most part its basically guessing without being there when the ritual happens.

A vet can do a blood test and find out. I'm not sure how pricey it is but you could probably call around and check
