If you are having a problem dealing with all that has happened. And you yourself think it's a good idea then tell them. But do it because you want to and not because a therapist thinks it's a good idea. Tell your parents you would at least like to try it for a few months. If you feel an improvement while on them great. But they do not work for everyone. Just don't get yourself into the habit of having to depend on pills in order to feel normal. If the deaths you mentioned are recent and you have a friend who is sick and dieing. It is normal to feel sad. I do not think you a freak for wanting to seek help. I wish you well may things work out for the best.

You shouldn't take anti-depressants. If your best friend is on the verge of dying, and there is something you can do to help her, tell your therapist and ask him to tell your parents, and maybe they can talk to her parents. I'm sorry that this happened to you. no one deserves to experience these things at such a young age, but anti-depressents should not be an option for you. At your age, they will make you all looney-toones...not a freak, but they will depress you furthermore, and you might have suicidal attempts. Just keep going to therapy...and actually, get a new therapist, because your therapists sounds like he doesn't know any better than to give a teenager anti-depressants. Obviously, this guy hasn't had much training. So, get a new theraist ASAP...tell your parents why, and I'm sure he'll be able to help you just through some therapy and talking. I know this will take time, but just be patient, and I promise you, you'll be better in no time.

Just talk to your parents. Maybe even have them come in with the therapist with you to have them explain it if need be. Antidepressants help a lot of people get through some really tough times! That would be much better than you getting so depressed that you consider taking your own life. I am sure your parents know several people that are on some kind of antidepressants about 1/2 of today's Americans do! It doesn't make you a freak!!! Just take care of yourself & if that is what you need then talk to your parents and your doctor!

No. I take anti - depressants and I am not a freak!!!

In fact, I felt just the same way you do right now, I thought there was something wrong with me if I needed them. It ended up getting worse and worse and worse until it was affecting my physically, I was getting dizzy and I couldnt even move. I ended up in hospital for a month ( I only came out about 8 weeks ago) because the depression had become SO bad it affected me whole life physically and I could hardly function anymore. They started me of zoloft and there is now a noticeable difference, I am a lot better.

You cant be ashamed of needing extra help, you need to do whats best for you. It is a chemical imbalance in your brain that needs adjusting, that is all.

All they do is make you feel level headed and able to stop dwelling on the bad things (like who has died etc..) and able to focus on the good and normal things like work, school etc...

I would just tell them, I think you will find they will be really supportive.

You need to see a Psychiatrist to get antidepressants and it is your therapist who should be telling them not you. Depression is an illness and nothing to be ashamed of. Therapy is essential but medication can make things much easier even if you only take them for a short while. Some medications are not good for people as young as you so be sure you have a Psychiatrist and you regular Dr. talk to each other about this.

Was your friend and grandfather depressed? It sounds like you are around a lot of mentally ill people!
No, taking an anti-depressant won't make you a freak. Your therapist should tell your parents about any sort of treatment he/she is giving you.
You should talk more with your therapist. 13 is TOO YOUNG to be taking medication!!! See if there's something else you can do.

Tell your therapist you dont know how to tell them. S/he can help you tell them and explain what antidepressants do and what to expect. You may need to be on them for a year or a few years but few people need to be on antidepressants for life. There is nothing wrong with using medication to help you through a hard time.

Seek out all the help you need. Don't be afraid to do what you need to do to get better.

Your parents will want what is best for you... and right now, that's antidepressant medication and therapy.

I'm 13 tooooo...
Just tell your parents that you need them and I'm sure they'll understand. There's NO way they'll think you're a freak with how much is going on in your life right now.
I hope your best friend gets better and doesn't die :)

Well if your parents sent you to a therapist, they must have faith in them. And if the therapist recommends some kind of medication to get you through these rough times, I think your parents will understand.
Sweetie, you do not have to live with pain.

everybody nowadays are referring to antidepressants. at least 50 percent of your school is probably on them, without you even knowing. I'm taking them as well, and I don't feel like a freak.

your parents will be happy that you're seeking help for this issue. they would rather you be happy than end up worse without treatment. let them know how incredibly painful you have been feeling. sit them down and talk. they'll listen.

good luck.
