The Winchester 140 "Ranger" was a budget version of the Model 1400 and usually sold at the big-box stores for around $250. Find one slightly "pre-owned" and you'll have an excellent gun, they shoulder and swing beautifully, the only drawback is three-round capacity, 2 3/4" only. I have the 20-gauge version and have put tens of thousands of rounds thru it - fortunately, disassembly, cleaning, and re-assembly are as easy as any autoloader is likely to be.

I bought one of these a few years ago because it was getting embarassing borrowing my brother-in-law's gun whenever we went to shoot. No regrets whatsoever.
