In general, it was "Infinite Jest" by David Foster Wallace, but in keeping with this section, I'd say that the greatest book I ever read from a faith standpoint is "A Good Man Is Hard To Find" by Flannery O'Connor. Her novels "Wise Blood" and "The Violent Bear It Away" would be close 2nds.

Being a Christian, I would, of course say " The Bible". But that is too easy an answer, and probably not at all what you are looking for.
I would guess that, if you are looking for "Thought provoking", I would have to say "The Purpose Driven Life" by Rick Warren. It dispels a lot of myths that many of us believe in the church, because of the dogma of our particular denomination or even local church. The line "It's not about me..." brought a lot of clarity to my faith, in realizing that my faith is about God, not about what I gain. It keeps me grounded when I start to worry and freak out because I know that God has the situation full well in hand, and sees a lot more of the picture than I do. My life, as it were, "is not about me".
In fiction, I read a lot of books of all kinds. I am right now reading a series of books by Ted Dekker called "The Circle Series" and the individual titles are based on colors... "Black", the first in the series, "Red", the second and "White". Killer, and thought provoking, I reccomend it to anyone, But don't try to read any of the later books without starting at the beginning... it's not that kind of story. You must read them all, and in order, to understand the story. It will seem stupid, if you don't. I also reccomend a couple of books that have stayed with me a long time, and I find myself reading pretty regularly... Frank Peretti's "This Present Darkness" and "Piercing The Darkness"... both excellent novels that will make you think hard, as well as entertain you, gripping you right through to the end... even if you have read both of them a couple of dozen times, like me.
Hope this helps...
